Gaetano Liguori

Country: Italy

Gaetano Liguori is an Italian jazz pianist, the son of the Neapolitan drummer Lino Liguori, who grew up in Milan and emerged in the early 1970s as a free jazz player closely tied to the political movements of the time. He names Cecil Taylor as his model at the piano. He taught for decades at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and has written books on his life and on jazz history. Liguori played in the Idea Trio with Filippo Monico and Roberto Del Piano, and his first album, Cile libero, Cile rosso, came out in 1974 on PDU.
