* High quality vinyl reissue with remastered sound. 40th Anniversary Edition. Red Vinyl *On June 13th, 1979 in Demetrio Stratos, one of the most creative artists in the whole Italian progressive and experimental music scene of the 70's, died of medullary aplasia at the age of 34. Born in Alexandria in 1945 from Greek parents (his real name was Demetrious Efstratios), he moved to Milan at the age of seventeen to study architecture. After the experience with the beat group I Ribelli, in 1972, he founded Area, one of the most interesting and influencial Italian progressive bands. In the space of only six years and five studio albums the band would brand Italian prog music, but in 1978 Stratos decided to pursue personal artistic research based on vocal experimentation that would lead him to tour the world and collaborate with John Cage.
Struck by a severe form of aplastic anemia, a disease caused by the lack of reproduction of cells by the blood, Demetrio Stratos was hospitalized at Memorial Hospital in New York while waiting for a bone marrow transplant. In order to raise funds to cover the hospitalization high costs (which today would be equal to about 10,000 euros per week), Gianni Sassi of Cramps label organized in a couple of weeks a huge concert at the Arena Civica in Milan; unfortunately, the health of the singer fell and Demetrio Stratos died mockingly the day before the event.
The concert that was supposed to be in support of the great Italo-Greek artist took on an unexpectedly tragic dimension, becoming a celebration of his memory.
