PBK

American composer, Phillip B. Klingler, better known as PBK, has been active in the experimental music underground since the 80s. His work first became known through the homemade independent cassette culture scene of the 1980s, though later releases have also been in compact disc and LP format. His work has correlations to electroacoustic, classic industrial and free jazz genres. His compositions are created using extreme turntable manipulation, sampling, analog and digital synthesis. Improvising spontaneously and with little preconception, PBK creates pulsing, dense soundscapes of unknown sonic origin.

This home stands on ancient bones
Presenting the latest collaboration of Nigel Ayers (Nocturnal Emissions), PBK, and Allan Zane (WYRM, Nihilist Assault Group), recorded in 2023. The title "This home stands on ancient bones" reminds us that our present world is built upon a history of all that has gone before. Compassion, contrition, repentance—all the layers of emotions that rise from the surface of the earth—mingle and drift through the emptiness, existing all around us. This powerful work captures and embodies these emotions, …
Erosion Of The Monolith
*333 copies limited edition. 2023 stock* "Back in 2004, Nigel Ayers (Nocturnal Emissions) and Phillip B. Klingler (PBK), got together to collaborate- during this session, they created two hours’ worth of material. Some of it appeared on various releases over the next few years, but a portion was left aside. Mid 2021 rolled on, and Klingler decidedly to unearth this remaining portion and thus, Erosion of The Monolith was born- which is a contemporary example of exquisitely peculiar ambience. Both…
Chain Letter Exhortation Series #4
*40 copies limited edition* The Chain Letter Exhortation Series explores the idea of creating an audio composition and passing it from one participant to another while adding to, modifying and remixing the structure. Unlike the "Exquisite Corpse", where each artist places their contribution where the last artist's works ends, in the "chain" each artist listens to and decides how to integrate with or subvert the entire structure at their whim. There are no set rules. The process is dictated by ea…

Monument Of Empty Colours + Depression And Ideal
Dirk Serries is an extremely prolific and creative artist who has a huge amount of music composed solo, under his own name or under the name Vidna Obmana. In addition to solo recordings, Dirk often collaborated with other artists, thus introducing a new quality to his own music. While implementing the next installments of our informal series, we also published a few of them; for example "Traces" in collaboration with David Lee Myers, or "The Shape of Solitude" with Serge Devadder. This time we p…
Thinking of Eternity
**300 copies** In late 1998, using the same techniques by which he had composed the psychedelically inspired music of the year before, PBK spontaneously began working on a quartet of pieces as a tribute to the Cluster album (by Moebius & Roedelius) he had become obsessed with. “All of my synthesizers and samplers would be set up and running via two synched midi-sequencers, everything mixed live while manipulating the sounds by hand to achieve these incremental timbral changes, the slow effect of…
Rabid
'Rabid' consists of six tracks mixed by Phillip B. Klingler, aka PBK, between 2004-06 using Wolf Eyes source material, this is the Wolf Eyes lineup of 2000-05: Nate Young, John Olson and Aaron Dilloway.Klingler: 'I was given the audio sources (via cdr) by John Olson at the Ear Candy Festival in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2004. None of the compositions on the album were completed using a computer, they were all recorded live in my home studio or at gigs and radio shows directly to digital. Three of t…
Unidentified Again
About "Unidentified Again" : "I first met Jim O'Rourke in 1989. We corresponded by mail and would talk on the phone frequently. Jim was in college at that time and he was very excited about music. He sent me mixtapes, we would talk about his love of Van Dyke Parks, his work with KK Null or Henry Kaiser. I also remember he sent me Godflesh' "Streetcleaner" album which he likened to King Crimson's "Red". Jim's soundwork was always special and I released one of his compositions on my Assembla…
Five Manifestoes
Meanwhile hard to find collaboration release. Swirling und grinding sounds in spooky layers. A rather dark and moving release.
