Peter Kowald

Peter Kowald (1944-2002) was one of the most important figures in European free jazz and free improvisation. A central voice on the double bass, he was a founding member of the Globe Unity Orchestra alongside Alexander von Schlippenbach, and appeared on seminal early recordings by Peter Brötzmann. An tireless traveler and connector, he spent decades building bridges between the European, American, and Asian free improvisation scenes.
