Swans

Swans is an American experimental rock group formed in New York City in 1981 and led throughout by singer and songwriter Michael Gira. Coming out of the no wave scene, the band first played slow, crushing noise rock, then moved toward melody, acoustic textures and long drone-based pieces. Swans was one of the few no wave acts to last into the following decade, and Gira revived it in 2010 after a thirteen-year break. Early records include Filth (1983) and Cop (1984). Jarboe joined in the mid-1980s and stayed until 1997, singing on Greed and Holy Money (1986) and Children of God (1987).
