Townes Van Zandt

Townes Van Zandt (1944-1997) was an American singer-songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas. He wrote dark, poetic songs in a style that crosses country, folk and country blues, and he played fingerpicked acoustic guitar. He had only a cult following while he was alive, but other singers covered his songs widely and his standing grew a great deal after his death. He is best known as the writer of "Pancho and Lefty" and "If I Needed You".
