Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar
Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar (1929-1990) was an Indian musician of the dhrupad tradition, born in Udaipur into the nineteenth generation of the Dagar family. He played the rudra veena, the large bass stick zither of North Indian classical music, and he is credited with reviving it as a solo concert instrument through slow, unhurried raga development accompanied only by tanpura. Zia Mohiuddin Dagar learned singing and rudra veena from his father, Ustad Ziauddin Khan Dagar, a court musician to the Maharana of Udaipur.
