Werner Durand

Member of: The Orchestra Of Excited Strings, Born Of Six, Tonaliens

Werner Durand is a composer, instrument builder and performer based in Berlin. Since the late 1970s he has played his own music for saxophones, Iranian ney and self-made wind instruments, long tubes of plexiglass and PVC that give him pitches and colours no factory horn provides. His interests span many traditions: he studied with Ariel Kalma in Paris and La Monte Young in New York, Indian classical music in India and Berlin with Kamalesh Maitra, and Iranian ney with Ali Reza Asgharia.
