Midnight Xpander
Veteran experimentalist, Marcia Bassett, returns with "Midnight Xpander", easily one of the most exciting entries into the field of drone and contemporary minimalism that we've encountered in a good while. Predominantly recorded with a Buchla 200 system at EMS in Stockholm, Sweden, and imbued with abstraction and the bristling tension of punk and noise, its subtle structures and intertwining harmonics immerse the mind in a deeply organic, hallucinatory realm that places Bassett at forefront of t…
Demonstration Takes & Retakes
Tristan Disco was an ephemeral Japanese project led by Takayuki Shiraishi (BGM, who released material on the Japanese experimental label Vanity Records, MLD) and focused on making dub-influenced Post-Punk. In 1982 they elaborate a no-wave full of unrehearsed breaks and cavernous vocals. Boundless dark jamming sessions through shades, effects and reverbs always submerged by a tense nervous bassline. On the B side Krikor delivers a hard-hitting Industrial reconstruction of "Social Dance" perfect t…
Handmande Paper Pipe
Handmade Paper Pipe is the collaborative project of Danish improviser Claus Haxholm and eclectic Italian sound-maker Renato Grieco. These two set pieces are the result of mutual manipulation of each other's voices and archival materials. Not many words were spoken during the process and the result covers a many topoi of modern experimental palette and noteworthy is the presence of low frequencies that sometimes even touch the territories of a hypothetical abstract vocal dub.
Libres (Festival de Massy 26 Octobre 1975)
"Armonicord. In 1977 an album was released under the name of Armonicord, of which I have just found a copy through a mutual friend: Esprits de Sel. Having heard of the album's release at that time, the memory of the presence of harpsichordist Odile Bailleux and drummer Christian Lete undoubtedly made me imagine a possible sort of chamber music. In the cover, we can admire the graphic scores of baritone saxophonist Jouk Minor, all in curves and ellipses with instrument and timing indications. A m…
Praxis

Rhythm Voice
The Swedish dancer, choreographer, and performer, Greta Lindholm, has remained, since her emergence during the late 1960s, a singular and unique force on the global contemporary dance scene. Having developed a synthetic and experimental approach to movement and generative sound, her boundary pushing body of work can be understood as a celebration of the body and its languages, and their intimate relationship with the voice; using primarily foot drumming and vocal rhythms, her body is transformed…
Aluk
Vienna artist Klaus Filip plays music using nothing but sine waves produced with 'lloopp,' an improvisation software program he invented and continues to refine. Toshimaru Nakamura makes music simply by controlling a mixing board's internal feedback, inputting no external sounds. Two artists with highly individual playing methods, they came together to create this album of improvisational works. Two of the three tracks were recorded in a Tokyo studio in May of 2005, when Filip came to Japan alon…
Espoo
*2024 stock* Vladislav Delay‘s EP »Espoo« features two new conceptual, rhythm-intense tracks. Whereas the groove of the opener »Olari« derives from a sound loop which is manipulated by filters and echoes and finally brings forth the intensifying beat, the reverse is done with »Kolari« on the b-side. Starting from an impulsive, staccato beat, a sound carpet is woven by means of modifiers which gradually shape a permanent vacation-like melody, close to Terry Riley‘s minimalistic concepts. Both tra…

More Intra Musique
When glancing over the history of indigenous French free improvised music, there tends to be two observable categories of musicians - those who worked and collaborated with their counterparts from abroad, and those who worked independently. The former is generally more celebrated, and among those the drummer Jacques Thollot, who worked with Don Cherry, Steve Lacy, Sonny Sharrock, Sam Rivers, Joachim Kühn, and numerous others, as well as with French pioneers like Barney Wilen and Jef Gilson, rank…

Manuale di cultura industriale (Book)
*2023 stock. Italian language edition* This edition of "Manuale di CUlturea Industriale" entirely revised, updated, and increased by more than fifty percent from the previous edition edited by Paolo Bandera, remains the reference text of an uncompromising counterculture that has been able to resist the blandishments of the market for twenty years. Music, performance, radical philosophies noisily sing the end of the industrial age. From here all "hard" musical forms have taken inspiration, from p…
