"Since 2003, NYC's Talibam! have been charting a course through the improv waters in a way that few other groups can pull off. Rock, jazz, noise and all stops in between collide in an aggressive mix that defines free music in the best sense of the term: nothing is deemed out of bounds. Too much fun to be a po-faced postmodern exercise, and too expertly played to be sunk in a morass of good intentions, The New Nixon Tapes hurtles through two side-long pieces in an agile cascade of rhythmic and me…
When psycho-spatial composer Nelson Gastaldi passed away in 2009 at the age of 77, he left behind a unique musical legacy that is only now beginning to be unveiled. A self-described “musical nihilist with noble and mystic origins” (as well as an accomplished visual artist), Gastaldi supported himself and his family with a job at an electric company in Buenos Aires, Argentina, while creating an astonishing body of work that went virtually unheard during his lifetime. Synthesizing his wide-ranging…
Killer a collection of rehearsals taped in the fall of 1969 at Ra's home studio in Philadelphia. The studio was also his home and the home of most of his Arkestra, here called the Astro- Ihnfinity Arkestra. The music here is meditative, soul nurturing medicine. Just about every musician from the Arkestra, even the renowned saxophonists John Gilmore and Marshall Allen, doubles on percussion. One might think, with a discography as extensive as the one Sun Ra boasts, that the scope of his work ha…
The Dutch title that literally translates to "Bedrooms with Whipped Cream" and harkens back to the band's experimental days. On three tracks spread over 28 minutes, Sonic Youth work out extended, hypnotic themes for non-existent psychological case studies. The title track, the longest of the three "songs" included here, opens with a swirl of sound before eventually settling into a 17 minute cavalcade of guitar effects overlaying a particularly "in-your-face" drum sound. The results are simultane…

Professor, herbalist and healer, Milford Graves is first and foremost one of the world's great geniuses of the drum. Rarely heard live, even more rarely found in the studio, a new recording by Milford Graves is a special event. Long overdue, this is the CD that free jazz fans and every drummer in the world has been waiting for: his music for solo drums. Intense, shooting off in all directions at once and yet always firmly rooted in the tradition, Tzadik is proud to release this important and his…
2018 release ** "INERT/E is Lars Åkerlund (electronics) and Kasper T. Toeplitz (bass and electronics). After years of navigating in similar musical idioms - somewhere between noise, contemporary or “experimental” music – using traditional instruments as well as electronic or digital devices (Åkerlund used to be a classical guitarist, Toeplitz composed many orchestral or ensemble pieces), now they both make a large use of computers. They have worked with Dror Feiler and Zbigniew Karkowski, among …
An ephemeral trio formed at the very beginning of the '80s, Fall of Saigon take a special place within French rock. A voice (Florence Berthon), an organ (Pascal Comelade) and a guitar (Thierry Den), supported by a foregrounded drumbox, suffice to maintain a minimalist and essential construction, full of class and inventiveness. More conventionally rocky than musics recorded by Comelade in those years, although subtly peculiar, the compositions show influences marked by the New York seal. Thus th…
In November 2016 while working on new material, Kostas Kefalianos recorded several ideas on tape between Kos & Athens. Almost a month later, all this recorded material had been rearranged and mixed by Panos Alexiadis who filtered and captured some of the best moments included in those tapes and eventually ended up in Phlegma, the second release from Kefalianos on Thalamos.

Dark and gloomy string arrangements by Michigan’s Michael Collino (Dog Lady Island, Alien Passengers) on both sides, concluding to an intentional dragged out silence on side B to complete those sounds of loss. “Funeral Zither” at its best.
To The Scaffold is the new solo material from Clay Kolbinger (Math Balance Volumes, Private Anarchy) under his Termite Acropolis moniker. Decaying tape music is spread across the 6 pieces of this tape, completing a foggy wilderness.
Edition of 400 copie, on marbled vinyl. Yannick Franck (Orphan Swords, RAUM) presents his new project: Mt Gemini. A deconstruction of ska, rocksteady, and skinhead reggae from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Rather a passionate deconstruction of a genre than compositions or remixes per se, this incantatory tribute favors abstraction using loops, distortion, compression, variations of speed and height, and effects (delay, reverb, chorus). Recorded in different states of altered consciousness, Mt Gemini…
Although the band never released an album during the years of their activity, Wilde Flowers is certainly to be counted among the foundation stones of the Canterbury scene of the mid-to-late Sixties. After their departure from the band, the members formed other two seminal groups of the Canterbury Sound: Soft Machine (Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers, and Hugh Hopper) and Caravan (David Sinclair, Richard Sinclair, Pye Hastings, and Richard Coughlan)
Monster Mélodies presents an unpublished recording of Opus Minor, an underground Parisian group with undeniable musical qualities, who gave numerous concerts during its brief existence from 1970 to 1973 but never had the opportunity to publish its recordings. The record consists of an instrumental track, seven songs sung in French and three more songs in English, in which the band, beyond its influences, creates its own musical universe. In September 69, at the École Normale Supérieure of Cachan…
