Best known as one-half of acclaimed techno minimalists Pan Sonic, Mika Vainio also has an impressive résumé as a solo artist that stretches back to the early '90s and his association with influential Finnish imprint Sähkö. Recording primarily under the aliases Ø and Philus, and sometimes his birth name (depending on the project), Vainio's aesthetic mission has been consistently and rigorously defined by an investigation into the materiality of sound. Indeed, just about everything in his catalog …
Cassette only - limited edition of 250 copies. The Tapeworm is really chuffed to have Philip jeck as its first release! Recorded in June 2009, at home in Liverpool. On 'spool', jeck eschews his usual prepared vinyl technique, instead playing bass guitar through various effects boxes. Philip jeck works with old records and record players salvaged from junk shops turning them to his own purposes. He really does play them as musical instruments, creating an intensely personal language that evolves …
Already out of print, Eleh resurfaces from the depths with a new full-length release on TAIGA records. Homage to the Sine Wave is the second release in the sound wave series following 2008's sold-out LP, Homage to the Square Wave. In a fashion similar to Square Wave, the elemental approach to construction of the pieces on Sine Wave is influenced by Josef Albers, the visual artist best known for his color studies embodied in paintings of geometric abstraction. Both faces feature sidelong composi…
GROUNDBREAKING! this four-disc collection of music from 1992-1998 might be one of the most amazing compilations of recent years, featuring more than four hours of music by 48 artists. The depth of the Chinese underground music scene is vast and widely varied, and until recently, quite inaccessible to westerners; by releasing this compilation, the Sub Rosa label has done the world a great service. Featuring pioneers like Dickson Dee and Dajuin Yao alongside more contemporary acts like Stingrays a…
2nd full-length from self-styled black ambient guitar overlord. Like Earth's seminal "Hex" before it, this invokes the ghosts of a lost America & drags the rotting carcass of country music through a swamp of noise & drone. The chugging, blown-out treble & isolated darkness of Xasthur is all present & correct, but there are also echoes of William Basinski & Deaf Center hidden amongst the clouds of radio static.
CD+DVD+LP. Mueller's mammoth new solo percussion work. If his previous solo effort "Metals" was about pummeling rhythms & frequencies, this drives the whole idea into oblivion, as the sounds here are something to be felt as much as heard.
LP album, numbered and stamped vinyl limited edition of 250 copies. The first is the pioneer of noise, experimental, industrial music, the other would rather be a sonorous underrated, surreal, sonic alchemist. Their music Dreamcatcher and Les 24 coups au vif are sparkling water works to get drunk. Pacific 231 created a dark aquatic atmosphere whereas Lieutenant Caramel tries to introduce some zing, pops and flings in the bubbles. Reflexive and mental, 'Just digging the crazy art' is the launch o…

Brilliant new recordings by the prolific cosmopolitan (currently residing in Berlin) Michael Northam. Suhina is a notion for the sound of the wind moving through the trees. Instead of doing field recordings of wind Michael Northam tried to capture this feeling & the essence of this process through instrumental recordings from Indonesian flute & keyboard. Nature phenomena seen as the true manifestation of the Unknown. Stunning full colour artwork by Indian artist Rohini Devasher. White vinyl, edi…
This is volume 3 in Omega Point's newly-reissued Obscure Tape Music of Japan series. Akai Mayu is a short work of fiction by Japanese writer Koubou Abe (aka Kobo Abe pseudonym of Kimifusa Abe, 1924-1993). This musical drama version was broadcast by the Japan Broadcasting System NHK in 1960 and composed by Makoto Moroi, a pioneer of Japanese electronic music. He composed the music with a chamber ensemble, mixed chorus and electronic sound. This piece was performed at Sogetsu Art Center as a p…
Recent issue of Japanese electronic music made by NHK electronic music studio after EXPO'70. This CD consists of 4 works assisted by engineer Tsutomu Kojima who assisted many electronic works of avant-garde composers. (Jean Claude Eloy's well known concrete music "Gaku-no-Michi" was also assisted by him.)

Originally recorded in 1980, Erector was harsher and less 'industrial' sounding than the first two albums and arguably became the seminal influence, along with The 150 Murderous Passions LP, for the subsequent wave in the mid/late '80s of noise projects (in particular Japanese); also featured for the first time in vinyl format is the originally banned cover art by Steven Stapleton.
Tussle's early output on Troubleman Unlimited proved to be quite a hit with tastemakers like John Peel and Trevor Jackson. Now, a few years down the line the group have lost one of their founding members (oddly, Vetiver's Andy Cabic used to play bass for the band) but have honed their modernised take on disco and rhythm music, with Telescope Mind achieving an immensely successful blend of experimental techniques and pop minimalism. After the brief, introductory piece, 'Lyre', 'Warning' comes acr…
Overlooked 12" from Bjorn Torske. With references to 23 Skidoo, This Heat, Residents, Idut Boy and Count Ossie and his unique blend of quirky, avant-garde, dubbed out, psychedelic sounds Torske creates a whole new genre: the free-disco. B-side track 'Soloppgang Over Yukigaya' was featured on Prins Thomas' 'Cosmo Galactic Prism' mix-cd, and rightly so.
