The Happy Jug
** Limited edition of 150 copies ** Presented here as novel and CD audio work, The Happy Jug uses a combination of verbatim text, fiction, granular synthesis and speculative philosophy to interrelate these formally distinct events in a weird causal relationship, reflecting on the palpable emotional and physical suffering connected to austerity politics — in particular the UK 2015 general election and its aftermath. The audio CD, produced by Kepla, features this narrative spoken by the author, Nat…
Bloody Sirens
** Limited edition of 200 copies ** On Sunday 3 October 2015, London-based choral ensemble Musarc spent the afternoon at Extra City Kunsthal in Antwerp to perform and record four pieces by artist/composer Neil Luck. These sessions were expertly captured, engineered and mixed by Bert Aerts. This record was launched on 11 May in London as part of Odradek, a three-day concert series of experimental music, performances and talks organised by Musarc.
Surreal Air Fortress
For a while it was possible to describe the duo Coppice’s often indescribable music simply by identifying their many instruments, particularly the harmonium and accordion wielded by Joseph Kramer and Noé Cuéllar. But the notion of renewal is built right into their name: the word “coppice” refers to the practice of pruning a tree to promote new growth. The label press release says everything "Outside: light-filters-to-be-entered are Surreal Air Fortress. New  songs from Coppice for physical model…
086–087 Area
Nyantora — Koji Nakamura — is a prolific musician and producer whose work ranges from ambient music to scoring TV commercials and films. He was a member of renowned Japanese rock band Supercar from its inception in 1995 until its break-up in 2005. Based in Fukuoka, duenn is a sound artist and also operates the duennlabel cassette imprint. Together with the afore- mentioned Nyantora, he hosts events and produces music under the banner of Hardcore Ambience.
Cave Bacchus : Destroyer of Naivetés
Destroyer of Naivetés is a recording by Cave Bacchus (Joseph Nechvatal, Black Sifichi and Rhys Chatham) of Nechvatal’s sex farce poetry book Destroyer of Naivetés that was published in 2015 by Punctum Books (and is available here). Destroyer of Naivetés is an epic passion poem, power- fully read by Black Sifichi, that takes up a position of excess from within a society that believes that the less you conceal, the stranger you become. Destroyer of Naivetés owes much to the too-much artists who he…
Die paste, die wrong
Gerard Herman blubbered his way through a trench of clay-like melodies that cluttered down the sole of his run-down sandal and his worn-out shoe. Upon arriving he sneezed, and Entr’acte opened the door.
The Horde
Transistor formed in 2009 when Franck Vigroux was performing in NYC where Ben Miller led several projects. Vigroux was in a creative transition suggesting a stripped down electro-industrial sound with the latter as lead singer. Miller had sung in many bands before but never solely as a lead singer. The new challenge was intriguing. Shows were set up with Vigroux’s sub-bass and extreme frequencies blowing more than one PA system. They struck up an overseas collaboration releasing a self-titled EP…
Plays and Sings for Money
Kallabris is the project of Michael Anacker. Active since 1986, its work has been described as ‘electro-acoustic chamber music’ — a description which should be taken literally. Anacker’s main interest is a reflection on the electro-mechanical conditions of sound recording presented in everyday recording devices such as cheap home computers, dictaphones and answering machines. Thus, he is not interested in the limits of musical styles but in the limitations of sound (re)production. “Songs. The fi…
The Sin King
"Theoretically blasphemous, his behaviours dictated by an innate inability to comprehend. The monarch of evildoing, perhaps a former innocent creature descending into despair, entirely aware of having chosen a wrong route but incapable of a decisive move towards resurgence. Consequences that must remain unchallenged, otherwise it’s hell - way before the real hell is finally reached. An ear-deceiving poker-faced orchestra keeps gesturing, leaving the disconsolate congregations totally clueless. T…
Swimming in Light
Double bass, bass guitar, analogue synthesizer, vibraphone, piano, percussion, field recordings. It’s the Australian composer’s 6th solo album since his debut, Ink On Paper (2008) and possibly the strongest demonstration of his innovative extended technique, deployed in two subtly contrasting yet equally hypnotic sides. Using rapid bowing technique to paradoxically generate ostensibly static, sine wave-like tones, coupled with analogue synth, vibes, piano, percussion and field recordings, Majkows…
Sensate
Sensate, recorded between 2009 and 2014 with prosumer music equipment, exploits the heavy- handed engineering of various hardware and software synthesisers, samplers and sequencers. Edition of 200 copies. Mastered by Jacques Beloeil  Brendan Dougherty is a Berlin based musician/composer/producer. Originally from Philadelphia he moved to Berlin in 2002. He co-founded the noise band Idiot Switch and dirty ambient duo Charrd and currently plays drums in Transmit, a side project of Tony Buck (The Ne…
Ulex
Ulex is the 4th album of incisive electronic studies by Croydon’s Dale Cornish for the ever-intriguing Entr’acte label following their Glacial, Fleshpile Sister, and Xeric LPs.  His latest deconstruction/exploration of “a/rhythm, space, silence and pulse” presents seven Patterns in which, through varying, economical strategies and processes, he dislocates our sense of rhythmic anticipation and toys our spatial awareness. The results are playfully elusive but, could also be described as awkw…
Untitled
Sam Kidel a.k.a. El Kid presents an extended drone work for the excellent Entr’acte label inspired by Henri Michaux's 'Untitled (Movements)' drawing. Located much farther out than his work with Killing Sound or the Young Echo collective, or even his numerous soundtracks for film, TV and theatre, the piece is based on two layers of synthesiser - one outputting the wavering, natural heat fluctuations of analogue circuitry, and another undergoing a slow and subtle metamorphosis. Pocked with collage…
The message is very simple
A quote from Timothy Leary, 'The message is very simple : think for yourself and question authority, opens and closes this piece of around 30 minutes. Close mic sounds and electronics.Limited edition of 100 copies. Mastered by Jacques Beloeil.
The Future of Discipline
Hanno Leichtmann: Percussion and synthesiser. Valerio Tricoli: Revox B77. Recorded live to 8-track by Hanno Leichtmann and Valerio Tricoli. Mixed by Hanno Leichtmann at Static Music, Berlin. Hanno Leichtmann is a sound artist and musician from Berlin. Valerio Tricoli is an italian musician currently living in Munich. Arcane, damaged, miasmic, The Future of Discipline follows a theme of quiet quantum mutability, with Tricoli using the B77’s famous varispeed functions to transform Leichtman…
Late-Night Patching 1
Belgium’s Yves De Mey strikes clean and sharp with four modular rave prongs for Entr’acte, leading a jagged dance after his recent 2nd album, 'Drawn With Shadow Pens' for Spectrum Spools. In De Mey’s own words: “Late-Night Patching is the result of a short test phase with modular software, mimicking traditional synth modules. A very basic 8-step sequencer setup was patched and used to its full extent for all these tracks. There’s something nostalgic about this EP, and not only in its recre…
Soul Music 2
Swedish iDEALIST, Joachim Nordwall spills the psychic contents of his skull temple in Soul Music 2, just over two year since his 1st volume, also for Entr’acte. Technically a collaboration with Dungeon Acid on percussion, this album pursues a rich seam of solo releases under Nordwall’s own name since 2010 with a typically ascetic approach to hypnotic, icy minimalism, dissonant tone and plaintive rhythm. As you might expect from a core member of The Skull Defekts, Fire! Orchestra, and Saturn and …
Feireenesse
One of the strongest and most mysterious Entr'acte's in a while features baroque electronic fractals with nods to classic Coil and the cascading weirdness of Anthony Manning, brought to you by someone/s operating under a veil of anonymity as "Six Swords" for London’s Entr’acte, who’re forever keeping listeners on their toes... About as cryptic as they come, Feireenesse is a beguiling suite of eight exquisitely elaborate Atalanta Fugiens - diligently mercurial compositions of evolving melodic and…
RX22: Two RX11 Drum Machines, Nine Suspended Speakers, A Microph
“RX22 combines the sounds of two RX11 Yamaha drum machines. Built in the early 1980s, these drum machines have independent outputs for each element of the drum set — hi hats, rides, claps, shakers, etc. I connected a wireless transmitter to each output that sends the signal from each element to a different mini speaker (a total of nine is suspended from the ceiling). I used the main out- put to simultaneously send the combination of all the elements to a stereo PA. The wireless transmission has …
Medication
Welcome return from erstwhile Oslo punk David Gurrik, a.k.a. Human Inferno, with a killer slab of advanced caveman electronics for Entr’acte. Gurrik was last spotted as Human Inferno on his outré label, Sonmoi, in a class split with Lasse Marhaug, and Medication marks his most substantial output in many years. Away from his involvement in “school politics” and the “local community”, it’s probably fair to say that music is a controlled vent for his life less normal, whether singing deadpan about …
