As a member of Ghent’s experimental music scene, over the past two decades Annelies Monseré has slowly refined a singular approach to musicality, moving from the sparse, instrumental piano works from that defined her early career, toward increasingly complex arrangements of instrumentation that offer a central place to her own voice, issued by noteworthy imprints such as Morc Tapes, Stroom, and three:four. Like her work within the widely celebrated ensemble, Luster, as well as Distels, her duo w…

“Outline of Nature” is the debut album by Twilight Sequence (aka Matthew J Saunders) following the release of a 12” EP and 7” single on Castles in Space, and an EP on his own Bandcamp page. “Outline of Nature” started as an experiment in building a modular synthesizer system and ended up as a voltage controlled outpouring of love for the natural world. Sylvan-born and pastoral-powered, sap-blooded and lightning-charged, this album grew out of the damp florescent corners of the woods, each note a…
“The first musical encounter between the members of the Milojkovic Trio occurred on a summer day in 2015. A gas leak in Jesper’s home forced us outside, where we had to wait for a plumber to fix the problem. At a given moment, Jesper’s upstairs neighbour, Jasmina, came outside carrying her accordion. I’m not sure anymore whether she actually played it herself that day, but I do remember the plumber playing the accordion quite well, after he had taken care of the gas leak.
Six years later, in 202…
Adroit jazz guitar, prog rock fantasia, and Japanese environmental music all rest comfortably behind Leo Takami's Next Door. The follow up to the acclaimed Felis Catus & Silence, Next Door finds Takami ruminating on passages — of time, seasons, consciousness. Through music, Leo contemplates daily events and finds beauty in ordinary moments. He also seems to be questioning the value of being stuck in the world, allowing his mind to wander towards something beyond it. His music is earnest, deeply …
All of You is a live album by American jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal featuring performances recorded at Jamal's own club in Chicago in 1961 and released originally on the Argo label. Jamal's group had a personal sound of its own, often playing quietly and leaving space but never losing the passion. These versions of "Time on My Hands," "Star Eyes" and "All of You" in particular are well worth hearing. On the cover, photographed by Don Bronstein, one of the first staff photographers for Playboy magazi…

Grupo Pan was led by Carlos “Nené” Quintero, former member of Los Dementes, Ray Pérez's group, and through this record he aims to retain the rhythmic strength and brass arran…

Heavy on space sounds and unexpected sonic tricks, these two songs were released as a tribute to E.T. aiming to take advantage of the pull of the film that year.

After three previous volumes in our series “Algo Salvaje” devoted to the Spanish nuggets, the new instalment explores the darkest, neglected and rebellious side of Peruvian 60s garage beat.
“Algo salvaje” is an anthology devoted to a rich period when hundreds of bands appeared all over the world and, after paying attention to what their US and British contemporaries were doing, found their own way to vent their teenage rebellion through loud guitars. With amazing results!
Many of the 14 tracks a…

Freaked out lo-fi psychedelic noise recordings from 1972 and 1980 by the mythical Japanese psych rockers Les Rallizes Dénudés, including the 23 minute "Guitar Jam" filling the complete A-side, a sort of Stooges riff with Ramones like drumming ending up in a total feedback noise orgy. Recorded on Sept. 9, 1980. Side B starts with the droning 18 minute track "A Tale Of Love," from the same 1980 Mars Studio sessions recorded 3 days before "Guitar Jam" and ends with a 6 minute version of the classic…
