Ligeti Edition
Terrific nine-CD box (digipack CD sleeves!) at a fantastic price! The heart of Ligeti's output, and the basis for the consensus that places him among the 20th Century's most important composers, is the series of masterworks written during his middle period, which lasted from roughly 1957 (after his escape from Hungary) to 1977 (marked by the completion of his opera Le Grand Macabre). The "sound surface" compositions from the period, including Atmosphères, the Requiem, Lux Aeterna and much of the…
Spontaneous Suite For Two Pianos
A 4-CD box set of 9 "Spontaneous Sweets", elaborate, magnificent and melodic piano improvisations, recorded by Connie Crothers & David Arner performing in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, NY. "It was magical from the beginning. The music seemed to create itself" "We trusted our spontaneity, our intuitive logic, our sense of form." "We had no set tempos, no preconception about soloing or accompanying." "We had no set themes or referents. What we did have was complete trust, i…
Trio With Interludes
Another fine disc from the Treader label, this time featuring the marvellous Evan Parker alongside John Coxon (Roland MKS 80, piano and harpsichord), Mark Sanders (Drums and percussion) and Ashley Wales (bass drum, riveted tambour and piano). As the title suggests this collection of improvisations is interspersed with brief interlude tracks, whereby Parker takes a backseat in order for his fellow musicians to plot out some experimental, palate cleansing sonics. During the main body of these piec…
More 74
UK free jazz guitar icon in unreleased solo material remastered from the original reel-to-reel recordings recorded in London, 1974, Bailey playing mostly electric guitar.  Previously unreleased recordings, remastered from original reel-to-reel tapes. The music on this CD came to light when, during preparations for the reissue of Derek Bailey's Lot 74 - Solo improvisations (incusCD57), Karen Brookman discovered tow reel-to-reel tapes stored along with the original album masters. They turn out to …
Monte Alto Estate
This is the collaborative masterpiece of the 3-piece unit, sim (Oshima Teruyuki on guitar and composition, Ootani Yoshio on computer, electronics, etc, and Uemura Masahiro on drums) and Otomo Yoshihide (turntables, self-made synthesizer). The noise of Otomo sharply incises the unique sound of sim, where Uemura’s controlled roaring drumming sets an main axis on Oshima’s precise rhythmical composition, Oshima’s the chord cuttings beats minimally and the electronics of Ootani give extreme voltage. …
Brasilia in waitawhile
"It has always been one of my desires to do an album with Brazilian musicians/flavours... i remember years ago trying to do a free-funk-samba album with saxophonist Ivo Perelman which unfortunatly never happened ?! when Hartmut told me about a very special number that he did with Don Moye and musicians/artists from Brazil under the effect of Santo Daime's sacrament, i sensed that this might be what i was waiting for so long... warning: you'll NOT be able to hear this music seated... hip DJs took…

Deceiving Illusion
Great album by this Detroit group. The songs range from sticky amoeba-like free ooze to stuff of some international album Folkways suppressed because it was too fucked up for public consumption. Pretty fantastic sleeve. 500 made.
Live at the Horseshoe Tavern
10 CDs documenting three full concerts from March, September & November 1978 at the Horseshoe Tavern; 8 hours of excellent music, well recorded and available here for the first time (none have been on bootleg lists) and a long radio interview with Sun Ra. This is a chance to experience the flexibility and vast repertoire of the arkestra and the way sets were organised and constantly changed. This is a numbered limited edition of 500 copies, officially released
Entelechy
the second full-length album by the  experimental/free-jazz quartet 7k Oaks, live recorded in concert at the  InterAct Festival in Hasselt.  This new release is at the same time a  confirmation of their musical background as well as an exploration of new  territories: about an hour of full-blast energy, with a variety of directions  ranging from walls of electro-acoustic noise to free-jazz bursts, hypnotic  rythmic patterns and lyrical melodic themes. It is the entelechy of …
Cry, Want
Very loosely related in selected affinity to the late Austrian saxophonist and artist Hans Koller, this younger version has played football with clubs such as TSV Oberlauringen and Dynamo Kebab, has studied ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and also jazz composition with Mike Gibbs and Bob Brookmeyer.Over the past decade Hans Koller has played and worked with Steve Lacy, Evan Parker, Phil Woods, Harry Becket, Kenny Wheeler, Bill Frisell, Steve Swallow, Jeff…
Otinku
The Modern Sound Quintet were formed in Stockholm by Trinidadian steel drum master Rudy Smith. On Otinku, Smith wails out on his set of 'pans' (as I believe the vernacular goes) in an improbably slick bebop mode, accompanied by a rhythm section capable of keeping it free and swinging one moment, and then within an instant locking down a groove. While pieces like the title track and 'Bye Bye Blackbird' flow effortlessly, 'Mercy, Mercy, Mercy' and 'Memphis Underground' lay down a solid bedrock of …

Nectars Of Emergence
Nectars of emergence is the exciting debut release of Mural, consisting of Australia's foremost improviser Jim Denley (alto saxophone, flutes) with Norwegians Kim Myhr (acoustic guitars, preparations) and Ingar Zach gran cassa, percussion). The trio has performed numerous concerts together since their first concert in Madrid in 2007, and now you can finally hear the music on CD. The Naked Truth
LP version with bonus 7". Every once in a while, a record presents itself so defiant in its refusal of categorization that it becomes the bane of those poor vinyl archaeologists whose business it is to file and classify. The aptly-named The Naked Truth (1975) is one such artifact; a wayfaring stray of an album that weaves its insouciant magic through the edgelands of sound. The musical provenance is palpable -- an electric blend of spiritual jazz, rhythmic black psychedelia and far-out ex…

The Warrior
"Not since Albert Ayler stalked the hamnar of Stockholm and reverberated his fire music off the walls of LES tenements has there been an avant-garde jazz saxophonist who can all out wail like Virginia Genta can.  Don’t let her calm presence fool you.  Nor should David Vanzan’s taller stature lead to believe this is not an equal opportunity free jazz freak-out.  From when their poles first were converged by the Cosmic Force in 1999, Italy’s (with Finnish godparents) Jooklo Duo has been winning he…
