"La Vera Storia di una Macchina Inventata" is a conceptual album built as a surreal sonic narrative. Conceived as a continuous journey rather than a collection of tracks, the album tells the story of an “useless machine” and its inventors, moving through exhibition halls, highways, rest stops and imaginary radio stations. The project was born from an intense period of collective research by Metameccanici, a trio formed by Angelo Trabace, Alessandro Trabace and Sebastiano De Gennaro. Working between studio and performance, the group combines graphic notation, radical improvisation, classical writing and electroacoustic sound design, creating a hybrid language that shifts between contemporary music, experimental electronics and performative storytelling.

Each track functions as a chapter in a larger narrative: the machine is presented, activated, questioned and finally abandoned. During its first journey, it becomes self-aware, enters a state of crisis and ultimately refuses competition and efficiency. Irony and poetry coexist throughout the album, turning the machine into a metaphor for the contradictions of technological progress and the fragile relationship between humans and the systems they create.

Musically, the album alternates composed material and guided improvisations. Acoustic instruments, electronics and voices interact in constantly changing configurations, mirroring the unstable identity of the machine itself. The sound world is mechanical but never cold, playful yet deeply reflective, balancing precision and unpredictability. Originally developed alongside a live audio-visual performance featuring a custom-built “machine-orchestra”, "La Vera Storia di una Macchina Inventata" retains a strong theatrical and cinematic dimension even in its recorded form. The listener is invited to follow the entire arc of the story, from the opening exposition to the closing credits, embracing listening as an immersive, time-based experience.

This album is not a celebration of technology, nor a nostalgic rejection of it. Instead, it is a speculative tale: a sonic fable about invention, failure, imagination and the possibility of stepping aside from the logic of performance and productivity.
