Finally restocked...OUTSTANDING!!! Dark experimental electronics with ritualistic edges, one of the most important US electronic/experimental LP of the 80s (Mutant Sounds) "Massively unlikely grant-assisted archival reissue of this wild cultic/ritual psych/no wave one-off from Chicago's Ono, their debut LP from 1983, originally released on the legendary Thermidor label: Thermidor released a ton of great shit back in the early 80s  Birthday Party, Meat Puppets, Minuteman, Nig-Heist but nothing comes close in terms of sheer off-the-map-ness to Ono's debut LP. A Chicago-based trio, Ono boast a vocalist who sings in the oracular/apocalyptic style of Father Yod or DR Hooker, booming pronunciations about how €when Zuni fireeaters X-RAY their king, all his advertising, his wives, his minions and children follow the oba into the cave while the group play what sounds like a No Wave-damaged take on early Ash Ra Tempel with Cosey Fanni Tutti on guitar. There are deep parallels with the kind of devotional psychedelic rock of The Doors and Fraction but given a heady shot of pure avant excess, with long sections of churning noise guitar and vocals giving way to the kind of nagging, repetitive depth charges of Ozawa-era Fushitsusha or even Tunnel Canary before exploding into the kind of testifying saxophone-led furies of a Last Exit. Cut alla this epic, eschatological atmosphere with whipcracking drum machines, some gnomic recitations ala Beefheart broadcasting from Venus, a desecration of Surfin USA that crosses The Cramps with Von Lmo and a final track that runs an apocalyptic shortwave countdown into a dead static locked-groove and you have one of the true 1980s underground monsters. Unclassifiable, out-of-time avant/psych ritual with a mainline to the goddamn source, 150g vinyl pressing with poster insert, hand screened jackets, highest possible recommendation!
