Vittorio Gelmetti (1926-2005) worked outside the Italian academic avant-garde and made a music built from other music. Organum Quadruplum (1967), written for a concert at St. Paul's American Church in Rome, sets a choir and Frederic Rzewski on organ against tape, popular songs and radio noise. Ipotesi A (1974), a study for the opera Non otterrete risposta, has Gelmetti on piano, percussion and bird call.
Side B, L'opera abbandonata tace e volge la cavità verso l'esterno (1969), is a 23-minute tape collage realised at the Polish Radio Experimental Studio in Warsaw with engineer Bohdan Mazurek. Issued in 1975 on Premier, liner notes translated by Alvin Curran.
