The full name spelled out before it shrank to DAF: Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, and this 1979 debut is the noisy prelude to the hits. The group was still a larger, wholly instrumental unit here, hammering out abrasive electronic and percussive improvisations with no songs and no slogans, nearer to free-noise than to the stark electronic body music they would soon invent.
Released on Warning Records, it catches a band still searching for the discipline that would make Alles ist Gut a landmark two years later. Raw, difficult, and historically telling.
