“Protopost and Disques de la Spirales converge to unveil the very first extended release of the German-American-French group SQ Mice, freshly recorded from paris's underground scene! A collection of widely divergente songs and recordings, carefully sequenced to mess with any expectation. Spanning from no-wave gestures to the scent of post-rave nostalgia, this debut album encapsulate the electric stasis of early Seefeel songs mixed in the much lofi way of DJ Funk, where the liminal guitar of a John Lurie soundtrack meets the tape distorted drums machine of Belgian BeNe GeSSeRIT. Sung in three different languages, SQ Mice plays with bursts of noise, microtonal synth and squeaking bassline, springing in a very unique blend of electronic music with a strange, tangy rock aftertaste. Don't you call this odd mixture post-punk tho, SQ mice is a style by itself! It comes from Squheamy, a tasteful redux of young people culture, reclaiming the sound their older siblings and rising above the stricture of genre, in a very distinctive fashion.”
