first track "Fetish (Remix)" hits hard. like, immediate. John Zewizz's vocals are all distorted, kinda growling but also whispering? weird hypnotic vibe. the synths are clanky, industrial but not in that cliché Nine Inch Nails way. more like someone dragged a metal chair across a concrete floor while humming a tune. Darline Victor's bass is thick though, real pulsing, gives it this sleazy undercurrent. reminds me of early Coil but dirtier, less polished. which is good. i like dirty. then "Warm Leatherette" drops. yeah, it's a Grace Jones cover, but Sleep Chamber doesn't try to sing it straight. they twist it. slow it down, stretch the notes, make it feel like you're melting into a leather couch in a basement somewhere. Richard Geller's guitar on this one is barely there, just these faint scratches in the background, like rats chewing wires. producer Paul Arnold really leaned into the noise here. it's rhythmic noise for sure, but it grooves? somehow. you can almost dance to it if you're messed up enough. didn't love how short it is tho. artwork: dark as hell. bondage imagery, occult symbols, all tucked into this A5 booklet. not subtle. not trying to be. fits the band's whole "S&M meets black magic" thing they got going.
