Video Works 1970-1999
A definitive 2-DVD compilation of over 150 videos made by the artist William Wegman and re-mastered by him exclusively for ARTPIX in 2006. From the earliest black and white reel-to-reel tapes to the most recent digital color videos this collection has not been previously assembled and available on disc. It is an exhaustive archive of the innovative and influential, and often hilarious, performances of the artist both with and without his Weimeraner friend, Man Ray. Inspired by the oblique humor …
Six Organs Of Admittance
Rare 1998 LP reissued on CD with two rarer bonus tracks, all on CD for the first time. In 1998 Ben Chasny self-released an LP of his 'acoustic based project[ions]' under the name Six Organs of Admittance. The resulting five-song LP is a masterpiece of diverse elements using acoustic and electric guitars, a detuned violin, organ, electronics and koto. The material covers a lot of ground: there's an acid folk duet, an epic, three-part space suite, and two short concrète-like pieces that entice hid…
How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life
2009 reprint, originally published in 2000. John Fahey is feared and revered around the world as a guitar player and composer. His inventions for acoustic and electric strings are the stuff of legend. Since he began recording in Maryland in the late 1950s, Mr. Fahey's access to the unknown tongue has been made manifest on over 30 albums, and his presence has unsettled audiences from here to Tasmania. He has served as a spiritual model for guitarists as disparate as Leo Kottke and Thurston Moore.…
Musica Endoscopica
In its constant pursue of the lost treasures of the Italian avant-garde music, Die Schachtel in collaboration with the University of Padua has recovered from the ashes one of the lost and truly shining diamond of the early electronic/digital scene of the 60s and 70s. After more than two years of painstaking research and audio restoration, Die Schachtel is proud to present a new release dedicated to Teresa Rampazzi, a seminal yet very little known female Italian composer/musician, Founder of …
If Ocean Is Broken (1971)
Unreleased free jazz from Japan in its prime, recorded live in Tokyo in 1971. Mototeru Takagi already released two beautiful duo LPs back then with master Japanese drummers like Masahiko Togashi (Isolation) and Toshi Tsuchitori (Origination), so this last DLP is complete in a sense the set of duo recorded with the best, 1st generation, free music drummers from Japan. On the other side it's complete also, the duo recorded by Sabu with the greatest reeds player from Japan (still of the 1st generat…
Second Offender
P1/E was formed in Berlin 1979. The original band members were Michael Schäumer, Michael Voigt (Monogam Rec.), Michael Hirsch (Exkurs) and Ute Droste. in the rehearsal cellar the band discovered a fourteen year old drummer, Alexander Hacke, who later came to fame with Einstürzende Neubauten. Before the recording of the legendary 7inch "49 sec romance" Voigt left the band and Thomas Voburka (Weltklang) who worked with Schäumer in the famous Exil restaurant in Kreuzberg, joined as a guest singer. …

Stone/Water
Featuring Ken Vandermark & Mats Gustafsson. Recorded live at Victoriaville in May of 1999. Fantastic live material from a very unique group – the instantly-legendary meeting of reedman Peter Brotzmann with the leading lights of the Chicago avant jazz scene in the 90s – brought together into a tremendous tentet that's maybe even better than the sum of its parts! The group features Brotzmann on tenor and clarinet, Ken Vandermark on tenor and bass clarinet, Jeb Bishop on trombone, Fred Lomberg-Holm…
Dharma Warriors
Far-out garage blues from the unpredictable talent of Henry Flynt, here in collaboration with C.C. Hennix. The two lengthy improvisations here straddle the borders between unrefined bluegrass and free-jazz improv. Flynt's freetime chord phrasings are given some context by the elaborately off-kilter beats supplied by Hennix, but the overall feel here is one of primordial, rock & roll chaos. While you'd expect a certain amount of soloing in such long-form improv workouts, expectations are subverte…
Viva
The 2nd release from KLAUS DINGER's post-NEU! Krautrock group. Originally released in 1978, this is a stunning combination of washed out synthesizers, swirling guitar work & Dinger's trademark motorik rhythms & accessible experimentation. Feat. the classic "Cha, Cha 2000." An essential record, released domestically for the 1st time ever.
Fingerpainting
"Now we have The Red Krayola's state-of-the-states address 1999, presented to one and all in grand Red Krayola style, going all the way back to the days when they spelled it with a C instead of a K (c. 1967). Back then, the world was hearing it's first of this now legendary outfit. Having never tried to do anything the same twice, The Red Krayola, manage in a way not to again on Fingerpainting, although this time, in a way, they tried. Fingerpainting features unreleased songs from the distant da…
Story of Moondog
3rd LP from NYC street performer & avant-garde/minimalist composer, originally released in 1957. Perhaps the least accessible of his early releases, this album is made up of percussive jams, usually on instruments of his own creation, street sounds, poetry, & Far East melodies, despite opening w/ a swinging number that is, oddly, the most bizarre thing on the album.
Moondog
Debut album, originally released in 1956. The blind Kansas native showcases his talent for the minimal & avant-garde here, w/ compositions driven by percussion & Japanese-inspired melodies, complimented by street sounds, recitations, & animal noises. Bizarre even for today's standards, it's a wonder this was released over a half-century ago.
Ende Neu
Reissue of the 1996 album, originally released on Mute. The quintessential scientists of the post-avant-garde abstain from focusing on listener disintegration tactics as they did on prior albums, but opt instead to hone their craftmanship in new compositional areas. Dark, focused explosions, w/ theatrical strings & tightly-wound vocal structures.
Invisible Pyramid: Last Elegy Box
Enormous 7-1/2 hour 6 CD compilation featuring almost everyone from the label roster along with plenty of new faces. Each artist has contributed an EP's worth of exclusive material (10-20 mins) specifically recorded for this release (not the normal throw away material that appears on other comps.) Feat. BLACK FOREST/BLACK SEA, BARDO POND, BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL, FURSAXA, URDOG, AVARUS, members of DEAD RAVEN CHOIR, HALA STRANA, THUJA, CIRLCE, & many, many others.
Anthem
Now including a bonus DVD of almost 90 minutes of previously unreleased material including a 3-camera movie of the band performing their "Special Wishes" album. 3.5 hr, 44 song live documentary chronicling this band from their first shows in early '93 to their recent stint of reunion shows. Shot almost entirely on broadcast quality television cameras (by a guy that worked in the business), this is a mandatory release for any fan of the band or any fan of metal, avant-garde or plain old rock & ro…
The Manifestation
Released in '00, The Manifestation was a clear, one-sided vinyl 12Ó featuring a primitive etching of the sun on the B-side. The music is an extended raga of genre-defying madness, a dizzy melding of acoustic fingerstyle, shamanic chants, chimes, hand percussion, space jam & ghostly vocals that effectively blurs the cultural boundaries of eastern & western folk music. Completely remastered, the reissue is housed in a lovely 6-panel digipak foldout & includes 20+ minutes of music made exclusively …
The Dream House / Dedications To Flea
The Dream House is the first album of new material from Windy & Carl in five years. Recorded at their home studio in Dearborn, MI it consists of two tracks. The Dream House is in many ways the duo's simplest and most straight-forward release, concentrated as it is on two evolving pieces. It is also Windy & Carl's most ambitious recording, with the duo deliberating on longer forms. Windy & Carl are capable of sustaining melodic ideas and patiently apply attention to singular musical gestures. Win…
Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An
This is the long-awaited vinyl re-issue of the timeless Nurse With Wound debut release from 1979. Described by Sounds at the time as a record that "makes The Faust Tapes sound like Carousel," nothing has changed to alter this view over the last 30 years, and to say that this work is the "Sgt. Pepper of the avant-garde" would not be hyperbole. The special box edition will consist of: the double LP, which will be a 2LP set with the extra track "Strain, Crack, Break" (never previously available on …
El Pulso
El pulso (1991) is a live collaboration with other guitarists. Masayuki Takayanagi (g), Toshio Sato (g), Shojiro Ikeda (7st.g), Akira Matsuoka (g), Hidetoshi Tanba (g), Taisuke Sakamoto (g), Shinichi Miyazaki (g), Nobuyoshi Ino (bass). Quite possible one of the strangest releases in the Takayanagi (New Direction Unit) discography: an acoustic guitar nontet playing covers of South American tango, milonga, vals, rumba, &c.
