Cannonball Adderley
Cannonball Adderley (Julian Edwin Adderley, 1928-1975) was an American jazz alto saxophonist, born in Tampa, Florida. He played in the Miles Davis group in the late 1950s, appearing on Milestones and Kind of Blue, and later led his own band with his brother Nat on cornet, known for soul jazz and the 1966 hit "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy". Adderley was band director at Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He joined Davis in October 1957, and Davis in turn played on Adderley's 1958 album Somethin' Else.
