Clarence Barlow

Clarence Barlow (1945-2023) was a composer born in Calcutta, and a pioneer of computer music. He moved to Cologne in 1968, where he studied with Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Barlow used computers to generate the structures of his pieces while keeping mostly to acoustic instruments, and he developed his own theory of harmony and metre. He died in Barcelona. Barlow first put his theory of tonality and metre to work in the piano piece Çoǧluotobüsişletmesi (1975-79).
