Kris Vanderstraeten

Kris Vanderstraeten is a Belgian percussionist who has played free improvisation since the 1970s. He plays a self-built kit of drums and cymbals extended with wood, metal, toys and kitchen objects, treated as a sound source more than a timekeeper. Vanderstraeten played in the trio Sureau with Jean Demey and Jean-Michel Van Schouwburg and in a duo with Timo Van Luijk, and has worked with Sabu Toyozumi and John Russell. Trommels! (Dropa Disc), his second solo record, was recorded live at Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp in 2014.
