Originally titled Rocket Number Nine. Tracklisting: Onward, Somewhere in Space, Interplanetary Music, Interstellar Low Ways, Space Loneliness, Space Aura, Rocket Number Nine Take off for the Planet Venus. Recorded at various locations, Chicago, late 1960.
Moon Phantoms is a collaboration between the bands Bardo Pond and Suishou No Fune from Japan. This record came about as most of these collaboration records do by two bands doing a tour together, hitting it off and deciding it would be fun to record a session together. Here's a review I'm stealing from Aquarius Records who always seem to sum up the mood of an album perfectly in just a few sentences: "Deep in the forest ethno-drones, drenched in buzz and shimmer. Sitar, guitar, cumbas and all sor…

RESTOCKED: I wrote these tunes in 1968 when Micheal Cosmic and i were students at the AACM School of Music. i revised Love life & games in 2008. i had a band going on then with Micheal Cosmic. we played students concerts with Roscoe Mitchell. he also taught us our reeds. i had music theory with Anthony Braxton and Richard Muhal Abrams..." Absolutely killer album of frayed and unstable electronic mutations from the Rangers-related KWJAZ project (boomkat) San Franciscan Peter Berend's mystery mixtape unit, KWJAZ, flashed forth this debut self-titled slab of 'post-plastic sublime decomposed luxury grooves' on cassette via his own rarified Brunch Groupe imprint early in 2011 and the 120 listeners lucky enough to grip a copy know who they are. It only took half a listen before we green-lit this tape-degraded gem for vinyl treatme…
"Probably one of the weirdest discoveries in the field of collectable German albums in recent years, Staff Carpenborg's sole output was first brought to the spotlight by the compilers of the celebrated Kraut! Demons! Kraut! CD series in the mid-'90s. Since then, rumors and interest about the album have risen exponentially since this weird record (and we mean WEIRD) is one of the earliest known examples of Kraut rock. How such a demented collection of tunes found their way on the budget Ma…
Much needed re-issue of this fantastic and unfortunately overlooked 1985 tape on "Stichting Stopcontact". Lex Grauwen and Paul Oosterbaan had worked together for about 8 years before they formed Tranquil Eyes in 1982. They decided to turn their back to stage performances and started experimenting with home-taping. Using an array of electronics, Tranquil Eyes recorded a great amount of songs and made a fine selection on Walks. Their first and only release. The wonderful produced tracks sou…

Sax player Steve Mackay blow with The Stooges on the legendary Fun House session in 1970 (and rejoined them in 2003 when they played their first show in 29 years at the Coachella Festival, and he has performed with them ever since + rec. two more albums)... nearly 25 years later he got involved w/Radon Ensemble, which includes members from such disparate groups such as Temple of Bon Matin & the Arthur Doyle EAE (Paternostro/Wilcox), Nimrod (Lohman), Koonda Holaa (Kamilsky), ect... the 10 tracks …
New European folk/trance orkustra from Denmark with their debut release on Qbico. Various acoustic instruments cohere in hymns to the roar of the cosmos that are as dippily fried as the first Siloah LP and as aggressively invasive as Pelt at their most planet-levitating. Their name comes from Shirley Collins's tracing of the idea of the true love knot to the Danish word Trulofa.
Restocked, few copies left: the privately pressed Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble 1st album had always been considered as a kind of legendary album, difficult to find (Hartmut confirmed to me that it was pressed in Egypt in only 200 copies)... here are available for the 1st time ever the sole other recordings left of this mythical Ensemble ! it all started with Salah Ragab & the Cairo Jazz Band playing jazz standards and new compositions in the end of the 60's... then, with the arrival of Hartmut, they…
This is the long-anticipated third album by Cyclobe. Essentially a duo comprised of Ossian Brown and Stephen Thrower, Cyclobe have created a thrilling and compelling collection of music, which moves effortlessly from realms of cavernous cacophony to moments of blissful delicacy. The first new Cyclobe music to surface since their "death-concréte" missile Paraparaparallelogrammatica (an album made in collaboration with Nurse With Wound), Wounded Galaxies Tap At The Window showcases major new …
Germany's answer to Daphne Oram or Raymond Scott - or more likely an elaborate wind-up perpetrated by Jan Jelinek, on whose Faitiche label her "archive" recordings sporadically appear - Ursula Bogner is back. Whether or not it's Jelinek behind the Bogner corpus (and I think by now we know the answer to that), there's no disputing the consistently brittle beauty, dizzying complexity and easy charm of her radiophonic constructions. You certainly get a lot of Bogner for your buck on Sonne = …
Boris's meteoric rise to superstardom doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon, only today I heard that the band had signed their last album (the absolutely stunning 'Rainbow' from a few weeks back) to US mega-label Drag City - what next eh, how long before EMI and Atlantic start getting interested? How about Sunn O))) on Geffen then? It could happen. Still we're back on our ongoing mission to seek out every Boris record we can, and this 2003 release is one of those absolute gems that keep step…
Unless Sun Ra's most out there moments, one of many behavioral components from Chaos 1978-86, were beamed alongside televised presidential messages for years, or the ravenous fire from Jimi Hendrix's burning guitar had a heated soundtrack of its own on the Billboard charts, it's hard to imagine anyone being ready for this crazy shit in the early 80s. The appropriately named Wicked Witch, a richly decadent and spooky avant-garde affair of off-kilter rhythm and blues-based x-spunk, was the masterm…
Cow's milk vinyl, artworks and music by Chris Pottinger, with insert. Side A originally released as a limited edition CD-R art set in 100 copies on Tasty Soil, Creature. B1 track is unreleased, recorded in 2007. B2 originally released in 2006 on Fag Tapes as a side of a tour cassette with Sick Llama. B3 was played as a loop for 8 months straight on a pirate radio station that broadcast out of the Cloud House on 107.9 FM. Far-out electronic music for the third millennium! The track on side A is s…
long deleted, very few availabe...Many if not most of Derek Bailey's fans (I was going to write "hardcore fans," but aren't we all?) will be surprised at the existence of these extremely early solo recordings, originally issued by Incus back in 1973. Even for a label as unorthodox as Incus, the TAPS represented a unique but very short-lived experiment in "marketing"; basically, Derek decided that it would be interesting, cheaper, and "less formal" to issue some of his favorite recent solo improv…
California Gothic set to the tidal rhythms of the Pacific and tuned into the metabolic pathways of the northwest coast. Porras (Barn Owl) has scripted a love poem to the mist, a prayer cast in ghostly reflected guitar and deep pools of distortion. The ominous opening of 'Gray Dunes' is a dense and impenetrable murk, a fear that eventually succumbs to distortion but then gives way to a endless open space of delay in its second half. Its trajectory is symbolic of the record as a whole, with many o…
Originally issued in a limited pressing in 2008, BEACH HEAD is a release of sunburnt affection for a place that has since submerged: a coastal constellation of friends and energies that still slosh and burn through dimensions just above our perceptual apparatus. These are the coordinates, should you want to go: THOUGHTS ARE BELLS opens in séance before easing back into full Florian blossom. HORSE STEPPIN’ is a love song to Neil Young’s six-string gateway: sunblushed and indulgent, persistently b…
