With "Why I Went To The Woods", I retreated once again into my hauntological dream worlds. With the woods being the place one traditionally goes to clear one's head, I went there with these recordings to fortify myself with a deliberate rejection of the Now. Inspired equally by both the fictional filmed landscapes of psychedelic folk - the bucolic British countryside of the 1960s and 1970s which, though I've never witnessed in real life, still fill me with an inexplicable melancholic yearning to…
I started recording "Creature Comforts" with 'Allegiance' on the night of November 4th, as the election results were coming in. I found myself craving lullabies, but ugly and reflective ones, that saw the world with an acute sense of horror and bewilderment and bereavement. Lullabies that didn't protect me from these feelings - or rather did protect me, but did so through immersion. I finished recording on March 10th of 2025. Visual inspiration came from a series of mixed-media works by my gifte…
A deep reworking of Llyn Y Cwn's "Megaliths" (2024). The original was a profound dark ambient exploration of the sacred resonance embedded within stone circles; "Megaliths In Dub" is the echo beneath the surface, the unheard rhythm that has always been there. The megaliths stand - timeless, unyielding. Their histories stretch beyond recorded memory, their presence imbued with silent narratives of the land. "Megaliths" sought to channel this ancient energy into pure sound. Yet no history exists w…
A decade after its long-awaited release, Coil's landmark album Backwards returns in a special 10 year anniversary vinyl reissue. The black vinyl edition comes in a gatefold matt-laminate sleeve with silver detail, honoring the album's elusive, mercurial nature with understated elegance. After the ground-breaking release of 1990's Love's Secret Domain, Coil were not dormant - far from it. The main project was Backwards, which was started in 1992, updated considerably between 1993 and 1995, and tr…
Illustrious Company presents... Mesmerine 111. This is a 3D soundscape based on / inspired by the frequency 111Hz, which has been historically and scientifically proven to induce a trance-like state. Findings of MRI scans suggest that at exactly 111hz, the brain switches off the prefrontal cortex, deactivating the language centre, and temporarily switches from left to right-sided dominance, which is responsible for intuition, creativity, holistic processing, inducing a state of meditation or a t…
This release presents the only live recordings of Marc And The Mambas, captured during three 1983 shows at London’s Duke Of York’s Theatre. Restored from original VHS tapes, the remastered double vinyl includes 19 tracks, deluxe packaging, and exclusive artwork by Val Denham.
Reissued after decades, this remastered Cold Spring collection showcases Psychic TV’s soundtrack work for Derek Jarman’s films. Featuring ritual soundscapes, field recordings, drones, and chants, it’s a haunting, essential document of avant-garde artistry.
2010 release ** "In the planning (and many faxes, emails and discussions in person) for 20 years, finally this stunning collaborative release for Cold Spring from Japanese Noise king Merzbow and legendary elemental sound artist Z'EV is here. The tracks were created in London and Tokyo, with each artist remixing the other's original sounds. Two tracks weighing in at 22 minutes and 28 minutes respectively! Dark Ambient Noise."
Andrew Ostler’s fifth album for the Expert Sleepers label continues his trajectory away from a sound largely based on synthesizers towards orchestral textures and heavily processed saxophone. Building on the string arrangements of his previous LP “Dots on a Disk of Snow”, and taking a heavy dose of sax drone from the earlier “Four Drones for Saxophone and Modular Synthesizer”, this record also adds a full choir, taking the music to another level of spiritual intensity.
The first side of the LP p…
Two legendary titans of the extreme metal scene - Iggor Cavalera (Cavalera Conspiracy / Petbrick / founding member of Sepultura) and Shane Embury (Napalm Death / Dark Sky Burial) - join forces for this unique split of brooding dark ambient, industrial strength noise, and heavy synth-laden electronics, creating what feels like the lost soundtrack to some dystopian fever dream.
Setting the tone for this double-headed behemoth with creeping, cinematic dark ambience, Iggor Cavalera's side-long 'Neon…
An experimental dive into aquatic and industrial rhythms, this is the original soundscape to the highly-successful, immersive installation "It's Always Ourselves We Find In The Sea" (premiere at The Saatchi Gallery) composed for 3D ambisonic sound by: Martyn Ware (Heaven 17, B.e.f., Ex-the Human League), Charles Stooke, and Gabriel Ware. Produced by Illustrious (Martyn Ware and Vince Clark of Erasure), with environmental and immersive design by Oscar Blustin and Anna Söderblom, the installation …
2010 release ** "Former Mayhem front man Maniac, whose band Skitliv has proved to be a surprising departure from the Black Metal genre for which he was best known for over 20 years, has formed a side-project with Vivian Slaughter, bass player/vocalist with the Japanese all-girl band Gallhammer, Skitliv's guitarist Ingvar Magnusson and experimentalist Andrew Liles (Nurse With Wound). Unlike Skitliv, which is a noise/doom amalgam, with Maniacs vocals still firmly rooted in Black Metal, Sehnsucht i…
2007 release ** "Reissue of the massive Death Industrial album from this Archon Satani (Mikael Stavöstrand) side-project, originally issued by Staalplaat in 1993. Inanna were at the forefront of a new force in Doom Ambience way back in the early '90s. This is stunningly re-mastered and re-packaged album brings alive one of the classic scene albums - a milestone in ultra grim and crushing death sonics, that paved the way for many Drone and Ritual Industrial bands around today. Mixed by J Havukain…
2006 release ** ""Cold Spring are very proud to re-issue the legendary LP released by Broken Flag in 1986, now for the first time on CD. Formed in October 1984 from the ashes of Ramleh. The membership was shifting, though focused around two members (Gary Mundy and Matthew Frith) and included contributions from several friends around the world. Featuring Tim Gane (Stereolab), Paul Lemos (Controlled Bleeding) and Pacific 231. This completely remastered disc features the complete 'Christ Knows' LP…
2008 release ** "UK Dark Ambient / Fortean Electronics act Satori - Neil Chaney (Pessary) and Justin Mitchell (Cold Spring boss). This is a collaboration between Satori and Magus Peter H Gilmore, High Priest of the Church Of Satan. Satori provide their trademark deep, underground, pounding electronics, here with a ritualistic dark soundtrack atmosphere, while Gilmore bestows a seething tirade against the weakness of the modern world! Two 20+ minute tracks, the 2nd being a deeper, instrumental mi…
Carefully constructed aural rituals from T.A.G.C., this album maps new realms in the area of sensual electronic music. Founder Adi Newton (Clock DVA) uses The Anti Group as an outlet for his research in psycho-acoustic music. "Iso-Erotic Calibration" explores the potent topic of human sexuality. Recorded over a period of three years, this could be considered on of their more "accessible" albums. Originally released in 1994 (Side Effects, the label of Lustmord, Musica Maxima Magnetica, and Adi's …
