1960's Japanese re-issue on Fantasy's "Debut Series" of the 1955 album featuring Charles Mingus and Elvin Jones. With obi

condition (record/cover): NM / NM

Obi included.

1955, and the strangest session in the entire Miles Davis discography. Charles Mingus was running Debut Records, wanted Miles on it, and assembled a group nobody would have predicted: Teddy Charles on vibraphone, Britt Woodman on trombone, Mingus himself on bass and a very young Elvin Jones on drums. Four standards, no piano, and an atmosphere somewhere between a chamber ensemble and a séance. Miles reportedly hated the date. He is also playing beautifully on it, that half-muted tone floating over Charles' vibes in a way he never quite repeated. Under half an hour and completely singular.

Fantasy pressing of the 1955 Debut session. The oddity in the catalogue, and one of the ones worth chasing.
