This album is surprising, confounding, and just plain interesting, least of all when it comes to the vocals. They just follow their own rules, if there are any. Linder, the vocalist for Ludus, has a lexicon that is labyrinthine and elusive. The music on Danger Came Smiling is equally tricky and hard to pin down. It knots and unknots itself with ease while being uneasy listening, a perfectly imperfect mirror to Linder and her voice.
