Behind V2 Schneider, a name borrowed from Bowie's tribute to Kraftwerk's Florian Schneider, stood Jürgen Schweighart, a linchpin of the early-1980s cassette underground around Rosenheim in Bavaria. Document (2004) gathers his work, remastered from original tapes recorded between 1981 and 1985 and reissued by Was Soll Das? Schallplatten, a label devoted to tiny vinyl editions of Germany's lost synth-punk and tape-scene music.
The pressing ran to only a handful of copies. Raw, homemade minimal electronics from the deep margins of the Neue Deutsche Welle, the kind of thing that circulated on dubbed cassettes and very nearly vanished. A collector's item by design.
