Art Edition. 150 copies in limited collector’s edition. Box set including 7 drawings printed on tracing paper + scores. The compositions by Massimo Bartolini, Caterina Barbieri, Gavin and Yuri Bryars and Kali Malone featured in the score, published by SZ Sugar and designed by Studio Folder, were initially conceived to occupy the spaces of the Italian Pavilion at the 2024 Art Biennale in Venice and contribute to Massimo Bartolini's own artistic project as an integral part of the works Pensive Bodhisattva on A Flat, Due qui and A veces ya no puedo moverme. The exhibition project Due qui / To Hear, curated by Luca Cerizza, is in fact articulated over three spaces that are also three large sound installations, in an itinerary that can be travelled in two different directions and that the publication also respects in the sequence in which the scores are presented. The collaboration between SZ Sugar publishing house and the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2024 thus returns the sound experience of the work of art on paper.

Through the transposition onto the score - by the artist Massimo Bartolini and the experimental musicians involved Caterina Barbieri, Gavin and Yuri Bryars, and Kali Malone - part of the work becomes indelible and reproducible an infinite number of times. This operation fully ties in with the theme of listening at the heart of the Pavilion project, of which this music is a fundamental embodiment. The project is part of the activities of the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale Arte 2024, curated by Luca Cerizza and promoted by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture. SZ Sugar was founded in 1907 in Milan under the name ESZ - Edizioni Suvini Zerboni, as an offshoot of the theatre company of the same name that had brought several operettas to Italy, including Franz Lehar's ‘La vedova allegra’. In the following decades, thanks to the impetus of the new owner Ladislao Sugar, founder of the Sugar Music record label, the publishing house's catalogue expanded to include, in addition to the operetta classics, the best of contemporary Italian cultured music. Since 1950, the publishing house has represented various composers such as Ennio Morricone, Niccolò Castiglioni, Aldo Clementi, Franco Donatoni, Goffredo Petrassi, Luigi Dallapiccola and Henri Pousseur, ranging from Ivan Fedele, Alessandro Solbiati, Stefano Gervasoni and Giovanni Verrando to Malika Kishino, Aureliano Cattaneo, Federico Gardella, Riccardo Panfili, Filippo Perocco and many others. From January 2024, Edizioni Suvini Zerboni has become SZ Sugar. Today, SZ Sugar publishes catalogues of contemporary, classical and modern music, both Italian and international, seeking synergies between music and other forms of artistic expression, as evidenced by the publication of the sheet music Due qui / To Hear.
