Bruce Brubaker is one of the most exciting pianists in the contemporary American classical scene, according to Pitchfork. He is back with a follow-up to his 11th album Glass Piano an audacious reprise of compositions by his contemporary Philip Glass. Brubaker’s new album, Eno Piano, is a stunning reinterpretation of selected tracks from Brian Eno’s ambient masterpiece, Music for Airports, as well as three original tracks. Brubaker carefully dissects, rearranges and reconstructs the iconic compositions of Eno, where the artist famously layered tape loops of differing lengths with the intent of defusing the anxious atmosphere of an airport terminal and resulting in what Rolling Stone credits as the album that defined ambient music. Within the guidelines of Bruce Brubaker's Eno Piano, one of the album's definitive tracks 'Music for Airports 2/1' is recontextualized as a piece created for a single instrument. The beauty and grace found in the gentle touch of Brubaker's virtuosity define the album's thesis: As Brian Eno famously said, “The studio is a musical instrument,” Bruce Brubaker now says, “A musical instrument can be a studio.”
