Original German edition on Jazzpoint Records's "India Classics" series of the 1987 album.

Soprano saxophone and sarod, which sounds like a bad idea until you hear it. Steve Lacy had spent his whole career looking for melodic lines pared down to their absolute minimum, and the Indian classical tradition offered a way of thinking about a single line that no European system does. Subroto Roy Chowdhury was a serious sarod player in the Maihar lineage rather than a session musician looking for a crossover credit, and the meeting is respectful, patient and genuinely exploratory. Neither man pretends to be doing the other's music. They simply find the places where the two approaches overlap and stay there.

Original German pressing on Jazzpoint. An oddity in the Lacy catalogue and a considerably better one than most cross-cultural experiments of the period.
