Tip! As part of Ann Eysermans's For Trainspotters Only project, a vinyl record of the same name was produced on which various locomotives can be heard in different constellations.
On the A-side are Prelude and Fugue for 4 diesel locomotives and harp. These compositions consist solely of locomotive and harp sounds. Both instruments were explored from top to bottom to extract their sonic qualities according to (often very strange) rules of counterpoint. Macro and micro sounds blend into melodies, harmonies and noise so that theoretical contradictions between the two sources of sound fade away.
On the B-side, we find six electronic compositions, reworked from the former P - Trains project, including Little One, Snowing and a choral for voice and diesel locomotive 5537. The sounds of the locomotive, alongside music boxes, organs and voices, play a crucial role in giving these recordings their nostalgic signature.
On ‘For Trainspotters Only’ Ann Eysermans takes you on an immersive and meandering ride, connecting the dots between the free spirit of Alice Coltrane, the orchestrated field recording compositions of Chris Watson and the magic realism of Claire Rousay.
