** Limited edition of 70. The cassette comes with a laser printed insert** Simon Vinkenoog was born in Amsterdam in 1928. After having worked for the Dutch publishing house Querido he moved to Paris in 1948, where he started working for the books and publications department of UNESCO. From Paris he launched the Dutch literary journal Blurb, which published Dutch and Flemish writers and poets, such as W.F. Hermans, Hugo Claus, Armando, Lucebert and Paul Rodenko. Vinkenoog’s own poetry saw its first publication with Wondroos in 1950. The book was to be followed by a string of compilations, collaborations and translations over the following decades. Through his international contacts and friendships Vinkenoog developed into a vital link between the Anglo-American counterculture and the European avant-garde in the 1960s and 1970s. He translated Allen Ginsberg and Antonin Artaud, was part of Alexander Trocchi’s Sigma project, supported the Provo movement, and advocated the LSD fuelled teachings of Timothy Leary. Vinkenoog’s all-embracing optimism and vitalism survived when his right leg had to be amputated in 2009 and was only quenched by a fatal brain hemorrhage a month later. The CCC cassette Jazz = Sex = Good contains a live recording of Simon Vinkenoog performing to the accompaniment of a jazz pianist and a bassist in The Hague on 13 July 1989. A brief biography of the poet is included. (Ben Schot)
