"Issued as a footnote to the career of this quite remarkable duo, 'Live 68-73' sees Bernd and Walter performing in a manner which might be described as 'unplugged', with surprisingly good results given the multi-instrumental (and guest musician enhanced) nature of their cosmic studio albums.
Without studio backup the songs themselves are given a chance to shine in an intimate live enviroment which sees the duo return to their German folk roots in a way which reminds you why they had such a special chemistry in the first place before magic mushroom clouds appeared on the horizon with their 1971 acid/folk classic 'Trips Und Traume'.
Many of the best songs from their 4 studio LPs are performed here, as well as a smattering of tracks which pre-dated their recording career.
The songs themselves feature those quite beautiful teutonic folk melodies you just don't get anywhere else, coupled with Bernd Witthuser's enigmatic vocals, not to mention the awe-inspiring array of instruments Walter Westrupp seems to be able to call upon to add that final flourish, while Bernd conjures lush sounds from his acoustic guitar with considerable dexterity."
