*300 copies limited release* Originally released in 2010 on limited edition CD, Orange is a singular, kaleidoscopic statement from Vermont-based Kurt Weisman – multi-instrumentalist, hermit mystic, and founding member of cult supergroup Feathers (with Kyle Thomas/King Tuff, Asa Irons, Ruth Garbus, and Chris Weisman). “If a homesick alien were to fall to Earth, meet a girl, pick up a guitar, and retreat to a cabin in the woods, it’s possible his first record would sound a lot like Kurt Weisman’s 2010 album Orange.” – Tiny Mixtapes
Beautifully remastered by Greg Davis from the original mixes and housed in new packaging that honors the intimacy of the original, this co-release between Poole Music and Autumn Records finally gives Orange the LP treatment it deserves, inviting a new generation of deep listeners and freak-folk heads into Weisman’s otherworldly zone. The music is ecstatic, precise, and weightless – part lullaby, part interdimensional transmission. Across its concise 30-minute runtime, Weisman allows himself to do something he largely refrained from in his debut masterpiece Spiritual Sci-Fi (Important, 2008): play folk-pop songs. Intricate, miniature constructions of bliss and longing, layered with inscrutable melodies, delicate chamber arrangements, and quiet truths. Each track feels like a secret we are being entrusted to hear.
After Orange, Kurt disappeared for 13 years. He released no new music, instead devoting himself to his orchestral trombone studies, obscure medieval instruments, and computer-based composition. In 2023 he reemerged, first with Be Nice to Your Song, followed in 2025 by Ghost Pipes. May your spirits rise and rise as you listen to these gift songs.
