*2022 stock. In process of stocking.* This is an outstanding hour or so of improvised music that beggars belief that this was only the second performance by this particular line up. The first was on 02/02/2020, and the first palindrome, and this concert 2 days later at Cafe OTO, with the second palindrome, and hence the title of this wonderful set. What is quite amazing is how such a rapport between four musicians can be created and cemented so quickly. Each free to add, comment or step up to lead proceedings and take the music in a new direction at a moment's notice.

All four musicians are masters of their craft, and all having been involved in improvised music for many years and this is immediately evident in the music. There is an empathetic level of communication and understanding that allows the music to flow effortlessly. No one musician ever tries to dominate and solos when they do occur are brief ans serve to lead the collective to the next area of exploration. Olie Brice, for example takes a brief bass solo on 'Tattarratattat - 1' before being joined by Dunmall and Pursglove's trumpet, and the subtle interjection of Jeff Williams at the kit that build from a quiet conversation to a ferocious climax. Similarly, in 'Tattarratattat - 2', Brice gets a fine but brief solo a few minutes in before being joined by some sensitive playing by Williams that slowly builds in tension. Joined by the two front line horns the music spills into another four-way dialogue that resists the urge to bombard and overcrowd the space but simply allow the music to find its own course with everyone having their say.

There are many little delights throughout such as a lovely trumpet / drum duet that is featured towards the end of  'Tattarratattat - 1', but the real satisfaction in the music is hearing how these four master musicians work as a collective and move the music ever onward in short stories and events that build to make a cohesive whole. - Nick Lea, Jazzviews.net
