Gryphon's fourth album from 1975, more song-based and electric, with Malcolm Bennett on bass and flute, a Beatles cover, Mellotron and Minimoog, and the 16-minute (Ein Klein) Heldenleben by Richard Harvey closing the record.

Raindance, released by Gryphon in 1975 on Transatlantic, continued the move away from the strict early music focus of their debut. Malcolm Bennett had replaced Philip Nestor on bass and also plays flute, while Richard Harvey took on a much wider keyboard set: grand and electric pianos, Minimoog, Mellotron, Clavinet and organ, along with his recorders and crumhorn. Brian Gulland is on bassoon, Graeme Taylor on guitar and Dave Oberlé on drums.

The album is made of shorter pieces and songs, including a version of the Beatles' Mother Nature's Son, Harvey's title track and Taylor's Fontinental Version and Don't Say Go, before closing with Harvey's sixteen-minute (Ein Klein) Heldenleben, a nod to Richard Strauss in its title. The sound is more electric and closer to jazz-tinged progressive rock, with the woodwinds now one colour among many.

After this record Bennett and Taylor left to form Precious Little, and Gryphon recorded one more album, Treason, in 1977.

Japanese CD reissue by Belle Antique, SHM-CD, digitally remastered by Kazuo Ogino, in a mini LP sleeve with obi and Japanese liner notes.
