Anthony Pateras, born in Melbourne in 1979, is an Australian composer and pianist active in both premeditated and intuitive settings. His work aims to expand the organisational possibilities of sound through an exploratory approach to timbre, form and instrumental performance, drawing on a broad range of acoustic and electronic materials, from prepared piano and percussion to analogue synthesizers and tape. He has written for orchestras and ensembles, led the trio Thymolphthalein, played long duos with Robin Fox and others, and released records on Tzadik and Editions Mego before founding his own Immediata label to document his projects in detail, with extended interviews in every edition.
