Black Leather Jesus

Black Leather Jesus is a harsh noise group founded by Richard Ramirez in Houston, Texas, in 1989. Its sound sits between harsh noise wall and power electronics, made with contact microphones and percussion on scrap metal, and its themes and live shows draw on S&M and gay leather culture. The line-up has changed often over the years, with Ramirez and his husband Sean E. Matzus as the constant core. Ramirez took the name from the kidnapping of Colleen Stan, whose captor told her he was her Jesus. The first release, the cassette Liar by Wound, came out in 1990.
