Bruno Nicolai (1926 to 1991) was a Roman composer, conductor and publisher, and the closest collaborator of Ennio Morricone. He studied piano, organ and composition at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, with Goffredo Petrassi for composition, and from the mid 1960s conducted and arranged many of Morricone's most famous scores, including For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, learning much and giving much in return. Under his own name he scored well over a hundred films, above all the thrillers and horror of Jesús Franco and the giallo of the 1970s, with lush, sinister, jazz-tinged writing.
