Frans de Waard

Country: NetherlandsMember of: Tech Riders

Frans de Waard is a Dutch musician, label owner and music writer who has worked in experimental and electronic music since 1984. That year he started both the project Kapotte Muziek and the label Korm Plastics. He is best known for Vital Weekly, the review magazine he edited and published, which began on paper as Vital and moved online as a weekly in 1995. Kapotte Muziek began as de Waard's solo noise project. Peter Duimelinks joined for a first US tour and Roel Meelkop came in later, and the trio now records only live.

Onder/Stroom
Title and concept play against Extrapool's short-lived Zonder Stroom programme (performances entirely without electricity). One bleak winter afternoon the trio decided to do the inverse, using every keyboard, synthesizer and piece of electronics they could lay hands on. The album collects mixes and remixes of that single session: a joyful, dense electroacoustic improvisation with Richard Youngs's experimental folk instincts threading through de Waard's and Nÿland's electronic vocabulary.

Klankschap 1999-2005
The second solo CD under his own name, following the widely acclaimed 'Vijf Profielen'. Six pieces from the period 1995-2005 dealing with field recordings and sparse electronic processing. 'This disc consists of 6 pieces, all realized between 2002 and 2005, despite the title. It's bookended by 2 short pieces called Werkplaats #1 and Werkplaats #2, both derived from older Kapotte Muziek workshops. Both of these splurts out some manipulated machine sounds and odd electronic treatments and work wel…
Zondag
The Dutch word zondag translates as Sunday in English and indeed these improvisations were recorded in a single day, a Sunday in January 2005. Quite in contrast with the speed of the recording, the recordings themselves were then shelved for no less than 2,5 years before they were revised by Roel Meelkop in June 2007. This CD, smartly packed in cardboard material as used for cardboard boxes, lists exactly who does what on the sleeve. Meelkop plays on Roland SH-101, Ielasi plays guitar, De Waard …
