Joe Henderson

Country: United States

Joe Henderson (1937-2001) was an American tenor saxophonist from Lima, Ohio. He made his name on Blue Note in the 1960s, moving from hard bop towards more open, exploratory playing, and worked in Horace Silver's band. A long run of records for Milestone followed, and in the 1990s his albums for Verve brought him a wide new audience late in his career. Joe Henderson began recording as a leader for Blue Note with Page One (1963), and his records for the label include Inner Urge and Mode for Joe (1966). With Horace Silver he played a well-known solo on "Song for My Father".
