Muslimgauze

Bryn Jones was not a practicing Muslim and never traveled to the Middle East. His recordings as Muslimgauze, however, qualified him as one of the Western artists most explicitly slanted in favor of the Palestinian liberation movement. Jones could have been a potentially controversial figure if his releases were available in anything except extremely limited editions—usually less than one thousand copies of each title. Despite their lack of prominence, Jones’s blend of found-sound Middle Eastern and South Asian atmospheres with heavily phased drones and colliding rhythm programs were among the most startling and unique in the noise and electronica underground. The Muslimgauze project ended tragically in 1999 when Jones died suddenly of a rare blood disease.

Farouk Enjineer
2021 Remastered reissue with new artwork. Originally released in 1997 through Soleilmoon Recordings. This is extremely intense Arabic dub noise music, designed to blow minds and loudspeakers. This is Muslimgauze at their peak! This is one of the absolute best albums Bryn made, superb all around. Amazing high and low tech sounds circling and colliding together, to make one remarkable album. It sounds like you may have sand in your speakers. Unmistakable Gauze!
Veiled Sisters
It's by some strange inversion that since his untimely death in 1999 Bryn Jones' Muslimgauze project has become evermore enigmatic as his publicly available recordings have become evermore vast. The Mancunian artist's sudden passing at the age of 37 prematurely resolved a body of work that remains as experimental as it is diffuse, with an informal archive that was left spread between favoured labels and confidantes. And though this monadic project never abided by genre specifications, it all fee…
Muhammadunize
* Edition of 700 *   Recorded and mixed at Abraham Mosque, Manchester 1996, this is a re-release of Muslimlim 009, only C2 taken from stdc 001.  Listeners who know much of anything about Bryn Jones’ work as Muslimgauze know that he was prolific in both his work and Muhammadunize, has what could be called a classic feel to it, with a very familiar blend of drones, string instruments, and synths, and varying percussion/break-beat patterns, in turn mixed with a number of hard-to-catch vocal samples…
Chechnya Over Dub

Uzi
** 2022 repress, with poster ** Muslimgauze's gem from the late 80s. Cinematic, minimal, noisy, hypnotic, and gloomy. Probably not so overtly Middle Eastern as his later works, though definitely bearing an influence. Backed by electric drones percussion forms a living, breathing atmosphere of impending menace. For a strange reason, this album was missed in VOD's Chasing The Shadow Of Bryn Jones 10xLP Box-set. Now you have a chance to complete your Muslimgauze discography! All Tracks Written and …

One of many Muslimgauzes to finally see the light of day on vinyl, his first meeting with The Rootsman is a fierce session of signature, sawn-off loops and soundsystem noise

Untitled
** Edition of 300 copies in digipak **This 'nameless' Muslimgauze album was first published by Klanggalerie in 1996, and in a strange way sends the listener back to 1993, to the albums Betrayal and Veiled Sisters, being their obvious and natural continuation. Slow and soft, like a lump of hashish, either a dub or a lounge with an intoxicating sultry sound it immerses the listener in a light trance... It gives you a feeling as if you are lying down for an afternoon nap somewhere on the outskirts …

Jackal The Invizible (2LP)
*Edition of 700 * Listeners who know much of anything about Bryn Jones' work as Muslimgauze know that he was prolific in both his work and in the way he sent out his work to labels and other interested parties. Fittingly enough for an artist that feverishly productive and often taciturn to the point of frustration, he didn't tend to give much more information than handwritten track titles on the sleeve of a DAT. Why he would submit multiple copies of the same or similar tracks to those he worked…

Narcotic
Narcotic is perhaps one example of an album in both camps of the Muslimgauze spectrum, it denotes the expertise acquired in oriental percussion by Bryn Jones after a crescent development and practice through action, part Tribal, part Ambient with shades of texturized noise, glitch details and field recordings, as result the listener is inside this intoxicant atmosphere of exotic madness, where the basic musical premise constituted by the consistent tribal beats from darbukas and tambourines cont…
Islamic Songs
The sun always shines bright, very bright in the Middle East. Windows open up and we hear music. Not the music by Muslimgauze, but traditional music. We hear the Adhan, the call for prayer, the souk and people talking. Music comes from all directions -- rhythmic, mysterious, monotonous perhaps, but swirling like a dervish, round and round it goes. The music of Islam was such an inspiration for Bryn Jones (1961-1999), although perhaps "inspiration" probably doesn't justify the seemingly endless f…
