Michel Chion's music concrete from 1971-1997, mostly inspired by classical forms. The compositions are 'Etude d'apres Beethoven' and excerpts from other works. Opera is the central theme. As Chion says, "With concrete music, we can create an 'opera for the ear' in which the composer, because he is working on a sound that is fixed, with its own time and space, finds himself with the possibility of providing the music, decors, lighting and also conducting and directing this theater of louspeakers.…
As Dan Melchior continues to kick the Medway gutbucket to the curb, he is also willfully absorbing all manner’ve underground cankerous crud along the way. For those endeared to wallet chains and crisp, cuffed jeans, this has been tantamount to heresy. But for thems what’s embraced the sounds of “the new Dan,” said aberrations are as welcome to caustic ears as a cold beer is to a set’ve parched lips. And while last year’s Visionary Pangs LP (released with Das Menace on the S-S label) was a grower…

Lovely artist edition focused on a Renato Rinaldi sound installation, consisting of 34 audio postcards that saturate the area with unstable frequencies and phase shifted pulses. Some circuits are sensitive to the proximity of the human body, and are powered by small batteries, so the sound constantly change. Some of these frequently collapse but they reboot after a few seconds with a sound that suddenly blossoms on a carpet of pulsating high frequencies. This is the recording of a walk in t…
On a rainy night in November 1980 Truus went to see Rhys Chatham's band in her Hometown of Eindhoven. Never suspecting that this evening would change the course of her life ! She met David Linton who played the drums with Rhys. They struck up a whirlwind friendship. Upon their farewell, David mentioned 'come see me in New York'. Fast forward two months later and Truus was in New York. Armed with backing track tapes, David and Truus started jamming around in his loft. Soon his roommate Lee …
Total Head Crush Destruction from Mr Wiese (also of Sissy Spacek and LHD, works with Sunn 0)), etc, etc), if your head was made out of a boulder the sounds here enclosed are still designed to leave behind nothing but blood stain dust. Side A is the eternal acid rain that we all fear slowly melting your skin away and reminding of your insignificant humanity, Side B is a metallic behemoth continously punching you from all directions leaving you with just enough unbroken bones so that you can…
Robert Hampson released the exceptional Répercussions earlier this year, now he has followed that up with two more albums, released simultaneously but presented separately. Even though he has become suddenly prolific, both albums are of the utmost quality, and have a distinctly different approach to sound between them. And yes, fans of Loop and Main, there are guitars! On Signaux Hampson sets up a rich tapestry of needle like high frequencies and subtle bass spreads, expertly woven into …

The Curfew Recordings were made at a disused industrial site on the river Tyne in 1984 and feature John Smith (then publisher of Interchange magazine), Sean Dower (ex Death Magazine 52 & later of Bow Gamelan Ensemble) And John Mylotte (of the band Metgumnebone). The recordings were made inside a 10m tall and 26m wide, steel-plated cylindrical, structure, once used for bitumen storage. "Hype Williams have cultivated a sublime aura of mystique around their heady sound with only a few 7"s and an almost-mythical LP for Carnivals. Ahead of a forthcoming HiT EP, their latest, 'Find Out What Happens When People Stop Being Polite And Start Gettin Reel' is one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, a 24-minute portal into their hypnagogic vortex. If you've checked their warped videos on youtube or picked up the 'Do Roids And Kill E'rything' 7" you'll have a good idea what …
