Cave12

Gaute Granli + Contumace
Each year, cave12 publishes a recording from its sound archives. This album brings together two artists whose concerts took place a few months apart. This edition has chosen to juxtapose their performances which strangely respond to each other putting them into perspective as if by a mirroring effect activated by our memory.  Gaute Granli "Out there Norwegian guitarist-performer-singer, Gaute Granli, a true prodigy of (de)structured psychedelic song that we have been following since his beginnin…
Upe
Upe is the result of a composition commissioned by the Ensemble Contrechamps from the group Massicot for a joint event with the Ensemble Vide. The creative process involved a dialogue with the musicians of Contrechamps and a work of accompaniment and translation by Louis Schild. The trio shared the stage of the magnificent Arcoop building (built in 1959 by Honegger Frères) - a favourite venue for Ensemble Vide's projects - with fourteen string instruments. The rain pounding on the corrugated roo…
Dust
*2022 stock.* Dust is a piece composed by the Swiss artist Antoine Chessex. A slow meta-physical progression, the junction of tense violins and a revoxian dust, juxtaposing, overlapping, resorbing and accompanying each other, before exploding in a powerful final catharsis. Like a proposal for departure towards infinity, a before-after Big Bang, highly successful, disturbing at times as is the vast unknown… the music of a ship leaving for the limits of the cosmos perhaps, in any case it can reson…
Darling
*2022 stock.* Adrien Kessler, former bass player and singer of the band "Goz of Kermeur" who toured their three albums between 1992 and 2000, comes back full of fantastic strenght with this new super-power band and their first CD release. Darling is what you need ! A rabid pop mood, hypnotic, violent and grinding, somewhere between the young Bowie's glam rock, the obscure violence of Birthday Party, the craziness of Pere Ubu or Beefheart and this unique little touch, free and indescribable that …
Maiandros
Testimony to the first encounter of the trio during a concert given at the cave12 on the 28.10.2020, on the same evening of the new Covid announcements which brought on a re-confinement in France, and eve to a six-month long shutdown of cultural places in Switzerland. A concert from which we emerged staggering and with burning ears due to the ongoing crisis surrounding us. A masterful sonic performance. Before silence. Drawing from the dense and intense sound material of the evening, Francisco M…
Last Live
This edition was produced and finalized in a particular context, Mika Vainio having left us on 12.04.2017. This material is the last concert he gave. It took place at Cave12 on 02.02.2017. We needed time to listen to this archive again, which we did in situ in June 2020 with Cindy Van Acker. After this listening, we felt invested in having to make this archive public. In order to work on this material, we asked Carl Michael von Hausswolff to do the editing. He extended the invitation to Stephen …
The Descent Of Inanna
An over-stimulating immersive auditive dive with exceptional depth. Uruk carries the listener away within a phenomenal landscape of dark ambient and subterranean drones with constant rich textures generating an atmosphere of extraordinary intensity. This remarkable new musical endeavor is a joint effort by Massimo Pupillo (Zu) and Thighpaulsandra (Coil). Echoes of Coil music and Zu music appear here and there but the duo maps an uncharted territory. This is organic electronic music. A journey int…
La Plainte
This piece by Francisco Meirino, a commission by the Mos Espa Festival, is mostly composed from the (MEG) Geneva Ethnography Museum’s sound archives. Composed in 2016, it has been re-edited by the artist for this present LP edition by Cave 12 records. In the MEG's archives, I first looked for acoustic events that I’ve edited, filtered, and extracted from their original context. I thus obtained a sufficiently abstract sonic-substance to be able to transform it into a hypnotic, psycho-active sound …

“cracked everyday electronics” – All of life consists of vibrations, and all of these relate to particular resonances. There are light waves, sound waves, microwaves… In this context you can start to combine things and, for example, use a radio as resonator for the waves from a remote control. And if it maybe doesn't work, then you just have to go on changing the fre quencies and looking for connections until you've cracked it. – Norbert MöslangThis sound piece was recorded on the 23.9.11 in the…
Untitled Phenomenas In Concrete
Composed between 2008 and 2011, 'Untitled Phenomenas In Concrete' is a piece made out of 85 HighC/UPIC* sessions and 18 external sounds (recordings of snow falling, bones cracking, magnetic fields and insects). *UPIC is a computerised musical composition tool, devised by the composer Iannis Xenakis. It consists of a digitising tablet linked to a computer, which has a vector display. Interested by Xenakis' approach and wanting to draw the sound before hearing it, Francisco Meirino spent nearly fo…
Live at L'Usine
Using prepared piano (Anthony Pateras), prepared guitar (David Brown) and drums (Sean Baxter) this live concert of two improvisations was captured at l’Usine in Geneva, Switzerland in 2006, an exploratory conversation of dynamic structures and sound that implicitly references modern compositional approaches to keyboard, strings and percussion. Formed in 2002 Pateras-Baxter-Brown have performed countless concerts throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe, developing a worldwide reputation for …
