Christina Kubisch

Invisible-Inaudible. Five electrical walks
These Christina Kubisch five compositions on the CD are based on numerous live recordings of electromagnetic fields, made between 2003 and 2007 in the cities of Birmingham, Chicago, Taipei, Paris, Bremen, Riga, Tokyo, Madrid, London, New York, Berlin and others. The sounds have not been altered electronically or by other means. Electrical Walks is a public walk with custom-made sensitive wireless headphones by which aboveground and underground electromagnetic fields are detected, amplified and m…
Magnetic Flights
Magnetic Flights is entirely made of electromagnetic field recordings of international airports and inside airplanes. The recordings of this piece were made by Christina Kubisch on her travels in 2007 from and to the airports of Bukarest, Manchester, Chicago, Seoul, Munich, Amsterdam, Zurich, Frankfort, Paris, Lisbon, Berlin, Pisa, Milan and London. The sounds were not altered electronically nor changed in any other way. The only tool, which was used for a part of it, was a filtering program (DI…
Stromsänger
Christina Kubisch’s Stromsänger finds this legendary sound artist at the top of her game mixing electromagnetic wave recordings with a score for six voices, creating powerful results.
Twelve signals
New CD from German sound artist Christina Kubisch on Semishigure, a similar exploration of sound & silence as the first one, Diapason (SEMI 002). On Twelve Signals Kubisch used original miner bells from a German mine to produce an hour long piece of bell tones. Several electrical bells were hit with small hammers each giving forth a sequence of clear bell tones that hover in the air. This live recording was made in the St. Matthaeus-Kirche in Berlin: halfway through the recording the original ri…
Unter Grund
Finding the mysticism in everyday life, Christina Kubisch & Eckehard Güther sculpt elaborate electro-acoustic field recordings with “Unter Grund”. Quite lush in terms of their sonic detail not a single element goes unnoticed. Much of the sound has a journey-like quality to it while the origin of the sound slowly comes into view. By opting for such a style the pieces resonant on an intellectual as well as an emotional level. Sounds positively teem with life for the duo chooses to amplify the busy…
Zenger Station
** Edition of 300 with full-colour sleeve and 4-sided insert with photos, liner notes and an extensive interview. ** “Zenger Station”, Christina Kubisch’s latest LP, issued by Edition Telemark, comprises two side-long works that encounter the artists delving into two very different electromagnetic environments, brought to life in ways that only she can. The first side feature the title work, "Zenger Station 1-3”.As Kubisch explains in the liner notes: “Zenger station is the name of the former el…
Plus
"There is not enough space here to list Christina Kubisch's many awards, exhibitions, installations and professorships. This edition of Edition Dur is clearly a very fortunate one. With Plus, Dur has succeeded in presenting five works by the Berlin-based artist and composer on a vinyl release, also to a wider audience, quasi as a set. The piece Vasenresonanz, which is presented here in its entirety on the reverse side, is a very good example of the actual approach of her artistic work as a path.…
Mag Magazin 6
Super rare one. An audio-cassette magazin published by Modern Art Gallery, Vienna, between 1979 and 1982. The cassette-edition contains a wide range of sound-works by Austrian and international artists. Contains approximately 8″ x 5.75″ double-sided insert with photos and notes in German
Iter Magneticum
Iter Magneticum is a selection of possible soundwalks which Christina Kubisch has made for this tape. The music was created both electronically and acoustically, using recordings of natural sounds as well as computer technology. Her basic idea is to create sound landscapes, where the concepts of electronic nature and natural electronics are no more opposite, but form a synthesis.
On Air
Original tape, documenting an installation taking up the medieval town of Gargonza in Tuscany, On Air was a part of Christina Kubisch's series of sound art pieces concerned with electromagnetic induction, as conducted through specially modified headphones worn by the listener. Participants would then walk around Kubisch's environment picking up on the various signals hanging in the air
Night Flights
Brand new, original copy of this mid 80s LP, recorded during a residency in Milan, Italy. Utilizing all manner of compositional strategies, experimental recording techniques, and homemade electronics, Christina Kubisch's music is an effusive blend of rigorous compositional logic and inspired improvisation--at times recalling the multi-disciplinary theatrics of composer Robert Ashley
Decomposition I-III
'Decomposition – I – III' is an experience of sonic realities and aural layers that usually remain undetected by our perception. This collaboration of Peter Kutin and Florian Kindlinger has brought forth a conceptual piece that leads the listener through three territories antagonistic to human life. Following the subjects 'Absence' and 'Introspection', 'Illusion' concludes the perennial trilogy now released as a sound edition. A live implementation of light, sound and film will be combine…
Two And Two
Sealed Copy. Legendary debut from sound artists Christina Kubisch and Fabrizio Plessi mixing sound and visual elements, a seminal LP record originally published on the hugely influential Multhipla, run by Gianni Sassi (also founder of Cramps Records) in conjunction with Fluxus collector and editor Gino Di Maggio. Two And Two was a live performance for two performers (Kubisch and Plessi), two video cameramen, a wall of monitors and uncommon objects and instruments. Throughout the performances, pe…
Tempo Liquido
CD + 16-page booklet. This outstanding album was originally released on LP by Cramps Records (Diverso n.10) back in the late '70s, and it was certainly one of the best from that series "The performance started with a four-channel ambient sound that continued throughout the whole performance. Since I had no sampling possibilities at that time, all of the instruments were recorded solo in my studio on a Revox machine. The recordings -- one channel for each instrument -- were repeated several times…
The secret life of the inaudible
'The secret life of the inaudible’ is the first collaborative work of two of the 20th century's most revered and important female sound artist/electro-acoustic composers Christina Kubisch and Annea Lockwood. Using purely natural sounds, such as Volcanic gas vents, earthquakes, solar oscillations and ultrasonic tree sounds - as well as electromagnetic recordings from light systems and seismic research centers, transmitter systems and others, they build an ultra-vivid, immersive psychoacoustic mass…
Schall Und Klang
Schall und Klang is the result of Christina Kubisch's extensive fieldwork on the trail of Hermann Scherchen (1891-1966), conductor and key figure in 20th century new music. After moving to the village of Gravesano (Ticino/Northern Italy) in 1954, Scherchen established an electroacoustic experimental studio on his premises and created a meeting place for scientists, composers, musicians and sound engineers from all over the world. Among his guests were Iannis Xenakis, Luc Ferrari, Edgar Varèse an…
24 Pictures At An Exhibition
Long out of print, very few copies available: the sound installation “24 Pictures at an Exhibition” has resulted in three different pieces. The first one comes close to the installation as presented in the museum – the technical term “oil on canvas/olja på duk” being one of the mostly repeated; the other two take us further from the original work without leaving the basis, i.e. the art collection of Ystad Art Museum. The paintings and the informative texts returned to their places in the rooms o…
Sechs Spiegel
Long sold out. Christina Kubisch's 1994 installation Sechs Spiegel is one of her better-known pieces, and the sound was recorded and released as a CD. The piece used the architectural proportions of the German building the Ludgwigskirche to determine the rates of repetitions and pauses in vibrating drinking glasses.60 minutes of nothing but rubbed glass. Documentation of the installation in the Ludwigskirche Saarbrücken (18.12.94 - 29.01.95). Comes with a worth-to-read booklet documenting the in…
Mono Fluido
"Mono Fluido' collects two major compositions from Christina Kubisch which, until now, have been unreleased. Extensive liner notes and & photographs detail the origins of the work. Heavy drones and deep emotions run through these newly discovered pieces." In 1980, the deeply fascinating sound artist Christina Kubisch made some professional recordings in an Italian studio for the soundtrack of Fabrizio Plessi's 'Liquid Movie'. She returned to the sounds in '81, mostly field recordings of swinging…
