Few groups working today have built their catalog with this kind of sustained intention. Founded in Ottawa in 2013, Atlantis Jazz Ensemble have spent a decade assembling one of the most coherent bodies of work in contemporary spiritual jazz - three albums, each mapped to a mythological realm, each pushing further than the last.
Oceanic Suite charted the tides: a debut of remarkable assurance that quietly became an underground classic, establishing the group's language of modal fire and Afro-inflected groove. Celestial Suite took the arc skyward, deepening the ensemble's chemistry and confirming that the years spent in development had only sharpened their collective voice. Mystic Suite completes the triptych with a descent into Hades' domain - the most searching, most fully realised chapter of the three, joyful and spiritually charged in equal measure.
Heard together, the three records trace a single unbroken line: from the tidal pull of the first album to the luminous close of the third, this is a group that has grown without losing itself. Rooted in the 1970s legacies of Strata-East, Tribe and Black Jazz, and alive to the present moment. T
