A Lebanese label releasing North Indian dhrupad is not a sentence one expects to write, but here it is: Les Artistes Arabes Associés, a Beirut imprint better known for Fairuz, issuing the Dagar Brothers in the days when Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East and its record shops stocked everything. The performance is the elder brothers' classic dhrupad, the long unmetered alap building to the pakhawaj-driven composition, in an early European-style recording.

The provenance makes this the rarest of the three Dagar records in this sale and a small monument to a cosmopolitan Beirut that no longer exists. Lebanese pressing.
