Arion's Indian LPs came to Italy through licensing deals that gave them Italian titles and Italian notes while keeping the French recordings, which is why Il canto del raga reads like a Milanese release and sounds like a Paris one. Hindustani vocal music, khyal and lighter forms, recorded in the seventies with the label's characteristic close, slightly dry sound.
Arion was the commercial face of French ethnography, less rigorous than Ocora, more widely distributed, and its Indian catalogue introduced a generation of European listeners to the raga before the CD boom. Italian edition, FARN series.
